number plates

  1. Halford's didn't have any despite them lieing saying they did when I
rang yesterday to check they did.

Anyone know anywhere around Coventry or Birmingham that makes DVLA legal
(as in you need your V5 etc to get one; Biker's World nearly sold me a
"semi-legal" illegal one) bike plates? The old one is a Leamington
postcode but I couldn't track down the company.

    thanks, Pete

PS. I assume you need a fully legal plate for a specific reason?
Otherwise, what's the problem with a 'semi-legal' one? The number of
cars/bikes with not quite legal but not taking the piss plates around would
indicate that as long as you're not being too silly on size fo plate it
    doesn't matter too much...

  3. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Peter Windridge amazed us all with this pearl of
    wisdom:
    Try www.autoreg.net

I've bought two plates from there and they've been well done and arrived
    within a week.

Really? Since when has a number plate determined the safe mechanical
    function of a vehicle.

    Lying robbing fucking cunts.

It's long been the case for cars but bikes were 'exempt' (in other words
had been forgotten about) and have recently been brought in line.

The place that MOTs my bikes takes the view if it looks ok then it'll be
ok but if you've 'a take the piss plate' then he'll fail you. The small
plate on the Guzzi passes. If this changes I'll swap it for a riot
shield one for the MOT then swap it back.

I always had a full size legal one in reserve for the rectification
notices I used to get for the /very/ small plate it used to carry about
    eight years ago.

I don't follow this. It's obviously for ANPR but nothing new has
happened, either don't speed past cameras, cover the plate, remove the
plate or put your trust in fate.

This site explains the reasons behind the new safety requirements:
    http://www.rogers.cwc.net/oligarchy.html

And checking at http://www.dvla.gov.uk I'm surprised to find that
the plates on my "gray import" car are actually legal.
