I got the dealer to send me the corrected number plate for thebike and I
noticed this has holes predrilled. I can easily use the other one as a
template, so not a problem but, for you more practical types out there,
should I drill it from the back or the front (or makes it no
difference)? There is a protective film on it at present.

Make sure you don't drill into the chip.

  3. IME, from the front, slowly and put a bit of extra tape where you
start from. Make sure that there something sacrificial behind the
    plate you can drill into.

I'd drill from the 'outside', there's always a small risk of a few
bits of plastic cracking away when the drill breaks through.

Use a high speed and very little pressure to avoid cracking the
    plastic.

Bit like driling through tiles then - put masking tape on to stop that
amazing 6" skid of the drill ;)

Before you do, I saw an excellent trick the other day. Guy rides up &
parks outside a shop on the pavement, totally illegal to park there
etc. He then whips off his number plate, which is only velcroed onto
the bike, and wanders off to do his shopping free of the tyranny of
    traffic wardens. Beautiful.

Until he comes back and finds a cop there, who promptly arrests him fo
conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

What? Naah, never heard of anything like it. Sounds feasible though.

Its a throwback to when Motorbikes were actually known as Motorpikes and
used to be served with chips.
