I was stopped today and told my number plate was worth a fair few quid. Its S**5EAN Now I know Sean is a popular name in Wales but is the plate really worth anything ? Or is it all bollox. -- <--ROT13 it Spam Trap in Header Freedom isn't FREE http://borg.no-ip.com
BORG says... It's worth what some **** is prepared to pay for it. Personally, I'd flog it and bank the cash whilst laughing at the daft tart who bought it.
When I owned a really shite old Talbot Solara, some registration company left a flyer under my windscreen and said if I "phoned this number" they'd give me £550 for it. It was nothing special at all, just your average, bog standard number plate. Yours would be worth a bit more and some flash 20 something city suit would have it for his Beemer I expect.
Depends - I paid £250 for mine 'H2 ***' - seems quite good. 'H1 ***' sold for thousands. But I'm not selling, otherwise people won't see my private plate and get out of my way.
good point, ill bang off a few e mails to them places that sell them to see what it's worth, anything towards paying for the actual car[1] is worth a go. [1] The important bit -- <--ROT13 it Spam Trap in Header Freedom isn't FREE http://borg.no-ip.com
BORG emerged from their own little world to say My Dad bought a T20 tractor for £175 in 1978. Sold the plate [1] KDD 183 [2]for £150 through a broker in Exchange & Mart. We used the tractor for 8 years & sold it with poorly engine for £100. So, email a few brokers and see what turns up. [1] you can't transfer a number from an agricultural vehicle anymore [2] it went onto a BMW 5 series registered to KDD Products
I've got a GS550E with the registration KGU IV; I've been told it's worth something as a 'cover plate' - apparently this is a number plate that disguises a vehicle's age - as seen on school buses and the like. Unfortunately, the likelihood of the bastard thing ever getting an MOT is remote but my friend and I have a number of these Suzuki POS and I feel a replacement frame coming on.
I got offered 3500 recently by a broker for my Hog plate! I didn't pay that for it, but I paid a bit extra on the bike for it though when I bought it. Apparently hog plates sell for loadza money ;o)
i wanted something to hide the age of my car but didn't want to send a lot. I was looking on DVLA site etc then I saw a SOROVER with just what I wanted on[1]. Bought the car(£300) transfered the plate and then sold the car on £275. so it cost me just over a ton. ***1ane suitably spaced to be *** 1AN E Yes I know you think its sad. thats your choice.
I think so. But if you've something that some other daft sod will give you money for and you don't want, then it's be rude not to oblige... My doctor when I was a kid (before plates became the business they are today) had DOC1. I'd imagine that would be worth a bit now. I used to laugh at the plate on a Granada belonging to one of my dad's mates... SFL1S
Jimmy Tarbuck used to have - and prolly still has - COM 1C. My father used to wonder whether he could be prosecuted under the misleading advertising legislation.
And what is that supposed to read? Soiup, Solup... I saw one on the way to work this morning, it started D19LE but the 1 and 9 were placed really close together so that it read TWAT.
How is it that one govt. organisation (the DVLA) can hold back 'interesting' plates or those that 'spell' something so they can make a profit from auctioning them and yet another govt. organisation (the police) can then do you for a dodgy plate because of incorrect spacing or a strategically placed screwhead. The DVLA must *know* that people are going to do this to a 'cherished' plate. It's interesting to see the results of the last auction: http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/Auction/p/last £17,400 for '77 AM' Anyway, to get back to the original question, it's got to be at least £500 going from other 'EAN' plates and E5 EAN is 'reserved for future auction'.
worth you've got a /what/? I've seen a lot of older sports cars, porsches and the like, around the SE of England with Northern Ireland plates on, which don't give any clue how old the car is - presumably this is deliberate.
