I've wondered if a different approach would work, have a rear
mounted Xenon flash gun near the number plate, triggered by the
flash from the GATSO designed to blind the camera, I'm assuming
the shutter on the camera stays open significantly longer than
the flash itself. It would need to be able to fire two shots in
close succession obviously, but a design like that might get
less attention from the police if reasonbly cleverly mounted.

    Tried it, it doesn't work.

Take a flash photo of a numberplate.
Then put a slave flash as close as you can to the plate
and take another. It is still readable.

You can modify a slave flashgun to work twice in quick succession
by adding an extra capacitor, resistor and inductor, but it won't
    make you immune to Gatsos.

Why not invest some time in slowing down for Gatsos rather than in
    building gadgets to avoid them?

Well - so far so good on the slowing down front.

Waterproofs bungeed on the back of the bike, hoping the leg doen't

    or sleeping bags.

make sure they dont get too close to the exhaust though cos they melt
taking the edge of the number plate with it.
