Perhaps we should all turn up as our own stereotypes
    - you with the above suit, plus pig
    - me in an MX5, with curling tongs and scissors
    - Bear pissed and abusive
    - etc

Nobody shouts, adults don't have to do that. It comes from having a
    sense of ownership and responsibility.
Worse may not be the right word.. more annoying, of a higher profile,
more bothersome, more out of control.
Oh, it is, I know that. In an ideal world I've have at least five more
people in my team... most of the other teams I work with would too.

It's still worth me holding out until march for my bonus though... After
    that, who knows.

I don't currently have a pig, but I'm sure something could be arranged.
No, no, you need a Triumph Stag, a purple crushed-velvet jacket, brown
cord flairs and a paisley neckerchief - that's *so* you.
    err.

Don't think it's not crossed my mind, it's finding the combination of
something *local* that pays well and is interesting that's the difficult
part. Derbyshire isn't particularly an IT hotbed.

why stay in IT[1]? Do whatever makes you happy.
[1] I don't expect to be in IT in 10 years time, for example.

Quite frankly I'm not sure what else I have skills in. I've worked in
IT since I was 18 - some 12 years now.

That's one of the reasons I just started an OU degree with some
completely non IT subject matter.. mainly to give me ideas and a new
    perspective.

I'd quite like to do something dangerous, well paid, and involving maybe
3 or 4 weeks work of a year.. any suggestions?

oh, sure, if it was a regular route, I'd settle into doing things as
close to the wire as possible. It's just on flights/routes/methods of
getting to the airport that I don't use regularly, I like to give
    myself plenty of time.

Having said that, when I flew to Belfast just before Christmas, I
almost missed the flight, because, although I'd factored in the stupid
out-and-back-in elevator-maintenance stuff at Seven Sisters (where I
get off the overground, and join the underground), I hadn't counted on
their being several thousand Spurs supporters on the train trying to do
    the same thing.

I got to the departure lounge after everyone else had boarded, and only
just made it. In fact, if it hadn't been for the fact that BMI now have
the wonderfully useful self-check-in system, I'd have been fucked.

The reason they don't have enough is because there's always someone with
a "sense of ownership and responsibility".

Yes, I was being facecitious to make the point.
And here's the rub. You put the pressure on yourself. So, you know
that you're given too much work to do in anything close to your own
reasonable hours, and yet you see this as your problem rather than
    your employers.

One of the most useful skills in a work environment is to be able to
    say "No" to your boss.
Well, that is a good reason to work like a nigger[1] for a short time.
However, I bet you that whatever bonus you get is a) less than you
expect b) nowhere near enough to compensate you for the work you've
done (prolly work out at 50p an hour or something).

There must be somewhere you can get blow up pigs, surely? Perhaps
    for, er, specialist use.
The truth of it is, it really appeals!

    <confession>

We missed a flight to San Francisco back in November. We naively
thought that four hours would be planty of time to get from Wimbledon
to LHR, but had reckoned without the vaguaries of LUL, which were out
    in force that day :-{

Cost the company two grand sterling, that did, as the tickets had been
issued as 'BA only', so we'd have had to wait a day the next one.
Fortunatle we were able to get onto a UA flight at economyade, so
avoided having to shell out the whole three and a half grand they
wanted for the normal business fare.

Amen to that, brother. Seems obvious to me, but many people won't see
    it.

I've been with 6 employers over the last 7 years. None of the positions
have required long periods of doing long hours.
a lot of traffic on the coconut network today.
