NSW; Helmet law

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Aug 28, 2006.

  1. OK, so all you old farts... when did it become law in NSW to have to
wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle?

And when did it become so in other states?

NSW I think sometime around 1970 but you could get away without wearing one
if you had a doctors certificate saying that you suffered with
    claustrophobia

It doesn't help with the OP's question but it's perfectly legal to
ride without a helmet in the UK if you a Sikh and need to wear a
    turban. That's the only exception.

Not sure. I got my licence in Nov 1963 and it wasn't a requirement in WA
then. I owned one but didn't wear it for the test.

  11. I got mine in '76 and had to wear a helmet, so we now know it was sometime
    between '71 and '76.

i wondered what happened with them, i gather these days they either dont
ride or wrap it around the top of their helmet?

  13. I got my m/c licence in SA in '72; I wore a helmet and I'm pretty sure
that was coz we had to. But I'm also pretty sure that was a relatively
    recent change to the law.
