The break point in WA is at 75cc. CTP for 75cc+ is $146.93 inc GST, for sub
75cc is, would you believe, $18.42 inc GST.

WA, catering for the scooter market.

    Are you sure?
I thought NSW was "No Fault" (or at least USED to be no-fault).

Cam, Zebee, can you help me out here?

    Well I just explained it.
It's not that insurance companies can't explain something so simple; they
just dont WANT to have to explain it!

Well, looking at it .. CTP is for 'compulsory third party (insurance)'
... so that on its own is not.

However, I used to have a related job (compo) from 87-96 but IIRC waaaay
back "some ****" to use a previous poster's terminology, or "the nominal
defendant" more politely .. was someone you could claim against in event
of an accident however your culpability in the accident reduced the
returns (eg if deemed half at fault you'd get 10K instead of 20). When I
worked, GIO took those payouts on nationally "as" the federal government.

Not sure whether GIO got the shits or what but eventually it was not the
only insurer for CTP claims. Anyway. At the same time greenslips came
in. So even though CTP sounds not for the driver, I am pretty sure it is
too - unless the cost was rolled into rego .. ?

Either way I distinctly remember it changing and me having to ring
places other than just GIO - had to get the liable insurer's name from
the MAA.. prior to that we just rang GIO and they handled the lot.

So essentially, it sounds like it's not but I think it is, too.

Have a look at some actuarial (I think) tables.. then the accident
ratios.. pick a price .. add some fat .. multiply it by a number or two
on the tables .. add some fat .. multiply it by a number or two on the
tables .. add some fat ..

But essentially Clem's summed it up

Well, a green slip has never covered the rider (or driver).
(Some companies offer such cover, but as an extra.)

If an accident involves two (or more) vehicles, then a driver/rider may
be covered by another vehicle's green slip. I believe that the "fault"
business still applies in this kind of accident.

I also believe that the recently introduced levy was specifically aimed
at third parties, innocent bystanders if you like, who got seriously
injured by motor vehicles, but couldn't actually successfully prove
    "fault" of the driver/rider.

Having said that, the basic rule still applies. The insurance companies
will take the money in quite happily, but will fight as hard as they can
    to not pay money out.

    regards,

If you believe the MAA, the reason bike levies are high is because
bike riders get lots of those injuries. So they are telling people
that the MCIS levy covers riders.

Fark; another "fact" I've believed for 30 years turns to dust!

Next you'll be telling me that Koalas aren't bears or that the "Liberal"
    party is actually very conservative!

You mean the Liberals aren't conservative??

Farrrrrkkk.. that's it. I'm voting Greens so Koalas have more rights.
The right to be classified as a bear should be a right, not a
    privilege....
