NSW: end of the sticker tax

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Mar 21, 2006.

  1. The infamous clause 19 that required a label on your exhaust pipe is
    now officially dead.

So interstate riders are no longer in danger of a $200 fine for a
sticker they don't need in their home state, riders of bikes with
legal aftermarket pipes without markings are no longer in danger of a
fine or having to go to court.

Doesn't mean offensively loud pipes are legal, and the MCC is still
working on the roadside test situation, but it's a big step forward.

  2. Woo-bloody-hoo!

As I'm in Brisbane, and now have an absolutly stock bike, this didn't
impact me nearly as much as you poor sods down south. However, it was
still cause for concern when we had the 'Storm, or should we have ever
ventured down over the border. Despite being completely stock, the
    Sprint, she has no sticker.

Even more worrying, however, was QLD's fondness for picking up anything
stupid that NSW does, with a corresponding hatred of anything good
(LAMs - I'm looking YOUR way). I don't doubt that should this rule have
stood up, it would only have been a matter of time before it was rolled
out around the country sort of by default.

Many thanks to the MCC and all involved in the campaigning of this -
bloody good result, and you should all be well chuffed.

    Thanks!
    Matto :)
05 Sprint ST - now where's that staintune catalogue?

As long as they don't fine say a '04-'05 or the new '06 owners of ZX10Rs for
    having 97 or 98dB (as the '06 is) stock exhausts I'm happy .... but I doub't
    I'll see that happen.

Congrats to the MCCofNSW. A win for the good guys.

We've just had a "motorcycle symposium" hosted by VACC (Victorian
Automobile Chamber of Commerce) last weekend, with various major players
attending. Notably absent was the state's 3rd party insurer, Transport
    Accident Commission.

Hopefully, out of the recommendations, we too shall see some runs on the
board. Chief amongst them are issue such as LAMS, lane splitting, and an
acceptance that bikes are a legitimate solution to congestion, and
therefore should be given due consideration when forming transport
    policies and their implementation.

    Hmmm....

However, I believe the VACC *was* there, and they appear to now be
putting their weight behind some good motorcycle causes.

Naah mate, what you got told months ago is "don't enforce it, it's dead"
    - right ? A couple of months ago the EPA gave up on it and put the word
out not to book people for it, this is the official paperwork that takes
    it off the books.
