  1. Summary: coppers are winning so go out there and bleed ya bastards
    (and read to the end...)

Please forward this email onto friends, family and co-workers and get
them involved in the Summer Blood Challenge 2007/08...

SUMMER'S FIERCEST BATTLE IS HEATING UP!

With only four weeks left in the 2007/08 Summer Blood Challenge the
Police Force and their supporters have rallied together in the last
week of January, to edge in front of their rivals, taking the lead for
only the second time in this year's Challenge.

    The tally now stands at:
    Police Force 1549
    Motorcyclists 1480

The motorcyclists and Police Force have joined forces and have
generated a total of 3,029 donations so far in the Challenge. As each
blood donation can help save 3 lives, this means that the Challenge so
far has potentially helped around 9,087 lives. This means we have only
913 lives to save, until we reach the 100,000th life saved by the
    Challenge.

A big thankyou must go out to the Police men and women from the
Southern Highland District, who contributed over 20 donations last
week to this their side's total. More than half of the Southern
Highlands Police Force turned out to give blood, from general duties
officers, detectives, high way patrol officers and even the police
    prosecutor.

The prize draw for this year's double pass to the see the 2008 Phillip
Island Superbike Championship, will take place on Monday 25th of
February. If you haven't already donated during this year's Challenge
or have family and friends who are yet to roll up their sleeves for
their side, make sure you donate before February 25th, so you too can
also have the chance to win this wonderful prize*.

There are just under four weeks left in the Challenge, so get behind
your side, and take out the 2007/08 Summer Blood Challenge.

    *********************************************************************
The Summer Blood Challenge aims to create a bit of friendly
competition between the Police Force and motorcyclists across NSW &
ACT to see who can make the most blood donations over the summer. The
Challenge has been running for over 15 years and the motorcyclists are
    currently in the lead 8-7.

I'm becoming a plasma donor starting on February 22, and I gave a
normal blood donation 2 or 3 weeks ago.

They have the posters up at the donor centre in Canberra, but I didn't
bother to ask about adding myself to the tally. Probably should have,
    eh?

Not from you thanks. The Red Cross already gave me one for 100 donations,
another for 150, again for 200, a very nice one for 250, and a huge one for
    300. No more medals after that, I'm afraid, but they gave a me a beautiful
crystal beer mug for 350, and a crystal ice bucket for 400. After today I've
got 9 more to make 450, I should make that by June 30, and I'm looking
    forward to my prezzie.

Have they given you a red cross biro yet?

(Clearly I haven't been as diligent as I could have been).

They're obviously not all bloody donations though, Theo. How many
    plasmids ? <oops, too much bioshock> plasmas ?

No, mostly plasma or platelets. I go every two weeks now. The first 40 were
whole blood though. When I first did plasma it took 3 hours. They didn't
have the machinery they have now. It was take a pint, rush upstairs,
seperate it, rush downstairs, put the red stuff back in:- repeat until
    enough. :)

Now plasma takes 40 mins and platelets an hour.

Then perhaps you could enlighten me, coz I've never heard of em. I had the
most mis-spent youth you can imagine, being a good little church-going girly
    swot... what a bloody waste!
