"Public concern that there are too many charities on the beat, and that
not all are using their resources responsibly, also needs to be
addressed. The NSPCC was slammed for using £20m of its annual £75m
income on public education and campaigning rather than direct services."

"Lord Laming 'could only speculate' as to what happened, but he said the
NSPCC could have saved Victoria's life.

The valuable work of such organisations was 'seriously undermined by a
lack of basic systems or processes', he said. The NSPCC expressed its
'profound regret and apologies' to the Climbie family yesterday for
    failing to act."

So, all in all, no. Thanks.

Would this be the same NSPCC that have regularly convinced legislators
that an appallingly high percentage of children are subjected to
domestic sexual abuse without supplying any credible evidence of this
whatsoever, and are now poised to render parental responsibility all
but non-existent if the latest Green Paper in translated into law?

Think I'll pass on this one, thanks.

    Best wishes,

    serf

Perhaps a little thought as to the fuckwits you are supporting on this
particular ride might be a fucking good idea?

This always strikes me as somewhat naive and, TBH, a total fucking cop
    out.

politics (small p) is everything, whether you like it or not. Your every
action has an effect in some form or another.

Whether you consciously control those actions is another matter
    altogether.

TV advertising works on you then it seems.

The manipulators will be grateful to know that you have assimilated the

    Ho yuss consciously.

Riding my bike has ****-all to do with Politics or politics, your choice.
NSPCC is not my charity of choice, but since a lot of people are going to
enjoy the ride, and I hope maybe some good will come from the money raised,
    then so be it.
I'd still ride if the charity was to pay for Saddams new headgear!
I care not one tiny **** about the why's or wherefores.

Ah... The cut and thrust of reasoned debate. I think you'll find that
the word you wanted was arsehole BTW.

    You're just a bit of a sad all-round loser aren't you?

Going on the organised ride so you can pretend the other people there
are your friends, even though none of them would piss on you if you were
    on fire. Sounds about right.

Find something worth riding for if you need an excuse. There are lots
of things that are actually fighting for something worth doing. Not
just to raise money for a load of morons who spend it all on talking
bollocks and do almost no good at all.

Did you *read* what Nigel and serf posted about the NSPCC?

If you're just into riding your bike, why not go for a trundle out to
    Burnham, instead of into London?

He'd probably go if it was supporting pretty much anything except for
care in the community. It's a shame that failed him, poor chap.

Yep I read it. I have no disagreement about the NSPCC, and I don't care
about the press reports either. Every single charity has it's bad press. I
can rememeber when Oxfam got a serious problem as well.

I'm not really bothered about what charity is running the gig, so long as it
    is not some wierdo outfit.

I'm riding in the London ride, because... _ I want to _
If no-one else does, then fine, seems as though there is around 300 bikes
    registered at the moment though.

    Cheers,
