There's emule and Limewire, I've tried both of these and they seem OK, but
it can take *ages* to get what you want.
    One I haven't tried: http://www.foldershare.com/

I heard something a while ago ... that they were going to trace people
using KL and sue for millions. Could of been a frightener though.

    Trace them how exactly?
Anyway, Spybot S&D blocks the Kazaa adware without disabling the P2P

    ISP: BT OpenWorld
    IP: 81.129.5.41
    Time: 22:16 25/1/04

Because BT will have kept a list of which customer was using this IP at that
    time.

OK so you can read an email header. WTF has that got to do with firing up a
P2P program, assuming one is not daft enough to leave it running for
    extended periods.

It just blocks your server ports from the range of IPs known to belong to
bad people (i.e. the RIAA etc.)

Hang on. P2P is what is sez. How can someone trace what you're
downloading with a P2P program, when you're connected directly with
another peer? i.e. Not going through a central server? I suppose the
ISP can do a network trace on the packets sent and work it out from
that, but otherwise, how can an organisation like the RIAA legally
    trace you?

Also, is the ISP obliged by law to 'shop' its customers that use P2P
programs? Unless it's in the customer contract that info can be
supplied to other companies or organisations, I'd have thought it
would be impossible to legally request customer info.

I've heard of a couple of ISP's over here (club-internet.fr and
free.fr) that have sent warnings to their users, that the use of P2P
programs is illegal (those that use them, of course). wanadoo.fr said
that they're not in the business of policing their users.

Because, amazingly, through modern day miracle science, they can see your IP
address when they connect to you!! GASP!, yes I know, amazing isn't it.
    Truely shocking.

    *Smacks head on desk*

    Because the RIAA:

    A) Put up their files for download. So when you go to download
MrBlobby-Greatesthits.mp3, you connect to the RIAA's copy of kazaa and start
downloading the file. They now have your IP address.

    B) They search for their own music. If you have BobTheBuilder.mp3 on your
harddrive and the RIAA begins downloading it, they have your IP address
    again.

It is peer to peer.... but there is nothing stopping the RIAA from being the
    peer you accidentally connect to.
....which is why the RIAA is now going to court around Europe in an attempt
to force the ISPs to give out the details. The ISPs have already told the
    RIAA where to stick it.

Fairy nuff, but isn't entrapment against the law? It may not be in

addy. WTF can they do then? Go to Plod and ask for it to be traced
through the ISP? So, see below, your para.
    Good. Wankers.
