I thought the prefered phrase was "clumsy ****"? ;-)

They may be classic symptoms but how many of us would jump to that
conclusion at Steve's age if we had similar symptoms?

The retrospectoscope always make diagnosis much easier.

Only a few chronic conditions, and heart isn't one of them, so in
England would require a prepayment certificaate to get any discount.

It's alright for you sugar mongs.

Jesus ****. I'm 33 and I get tingles etc all the time. However I suspect that
what I deem "chest pain" and what one gets in a heart attack are somewhat
different. Also, both my grandfathers died of heart-related problems and my
dad had a heart attack ten years ago (but has done well since). Grandfather
one was a heavy smoker and always wanted his salt-beef fatty though.
Grandfather two, I'm not sure about, I never really knew him. And my old man
certainly liked his food, although he gave up smoking just before I was born.

Although I had a blood test recently and I don't recall cholesterol being
high, so perhaps I shouldn't panic too much.

Time to return to twice-weekly running / football and eat less fried food. I'm
of scrawny build as I don't over-eat, but I suppose a fair percentage of what
    I eat is fried.

  6. It doesn't matter what the cause. When you have yours you will find this
out. If you have heart problems you get told to cut out the salt, fat and
    fags and become an alcoholic.

Oh yes and take pills. You must take pills. You cannot possibly be
healthy unless the drug pushers make their profits.

It makes me feel I know so little and would like to remember/learn so much
    more. Don't you think?

Remember someone posted a link to a changing map of Asian empires over time?
So I started reading a little of the area history from 750BC to 500AD. It's
truly mind boggling. I wish I had another lifetime to Read classical
history. I think such a qualification should be de rigeur for anyone
wanting to enter modern politics! It's a shame Her Hitlers and Stalins
didn't read and learn in their yoof.

Yep my dad is ok too as he had the heart attack about a year after
retiring. Labour were supposed to be changing the rules last yr to
include all chronic conditions.. but couldn't make the sums work.

This is where you're making your mistake. There are heart problems and
heart problems. Even 'Cardiovascular Heart Disease', which is waht
you're really referring to, comes in many colours and flavours.
    Well maybe on the NHS...

My wife has a 'heart condition', as it happens, but unlike the ones to
which you refer it really is a heart problem, being a thickening of
the heart wall itself. Cause and timing unknown, but could have been
there since birth. Turned up on an EKG when she had knee surgery a
    coupla years back.

She wore a heart monitor for 2 days, and repeated it some weeks later,
which showed, amongst other things, that she has perfectly normal
blood pressure, so no advice to cut salt out from the diet, and her
cholesterol levels are good, so not 'cut the fat' advice either. Maybe
it's just the Swiss being rational, but I suspect it's more down to
lack of dictats from above, IYSWIM.

    And long may it continue.

In SWMBO's case it's a result of one of the valve repairs.

I wouldn't put too much faith in a blood test. Seriously, with your family
history, if you've any suspicion that your "tingles" could be cardiac in
origin, let your doctor know your feelings and have an exercise ECG done if
    appropriate.

My only suspicions that anything could be wrong are purely based on panic
*due* to my family history, whenever I feel any pain in my chest. Oh, and my
dad saying that for many months before his attack (he was about 65), he had a
    "niggle" but ignored it.

Any tingle I ever get is very short (under a second), infrequent (maybe a
couple of times a month), and could be anything, random muscle, indigestion,
etc. Just part of normal aches and pains that I assume we all get.

So having said ^^^ "I get tingles etc all the time", perhaps that was a bit
    dramatic.

    I'm 33 FFS, I don't smoke any more, I drink lightly and occasionally, I
exercise fairly regularly, and I don't eat like a bloater.

Having said all that, it couldn't hurt to get checked out.

  18. Even the so called classic symptoms can be misleading. Apparently even
those who it turns out have acute[1] angina (which is what I have) can't
have a heart attack without it being preceded by a series of pains in the
left arm. They all but accused me of lying to them when I said that I had
never had so much as a minor twinge and that the gripping pains in my
chest really were a bolt out of the blue.

[1] A quick retort on the lines of "yeah and I also have a nice arse" is,
it seems, not at all original.

  19. Granted but the default position of the medicos is[1] that it is a
lifestyle thing and I expect this position is taken by them on the basis
of a great deal more experience than the whole of ukrm put together. In
Steve's case, particularly in regards to his age, I would expect some
other underlying problem to be a part of it but the odds are that he is
    nothing exceptional.

Full on Corporate PPP Platinum as provided by Sun Microsystems. Just like
    what you have.

[1] Mind you that was ten years ago and given what has happened with the
medical industry since then I expect it will be his fault for walking past
    a fag shop.
