I'll swap it for four conkers and a book of cigarette cards...

Heh ... I'm a school caretaker, just been out litter-picking and collected
four pocketfuls of conkers, just started to hand them out to the kids and
got told that I can't .. it's now against council policy (arse covering for
insurance 'reasons' I suspect) that conkers cannot be played on school
    premises!

    Feckin' gob-smacked I was ....

Have you seen the policy in writing? I will lay some money that it
doesn't exist and its basis is an over zealous bureaucrat somewhere.

Exactly the same as a policy on "black"boards.

    Judge for yourself.

It would have needed a visit to see if it still "started perfectly", but
basket cases have gone for not a lot less.
Certainly plenty of snakes in the grass.

My first car was a Renault 6 with the 1108cc engine... in metallic
    'shit brown'.

Rot inside the sill areas (1) can produce 'interesting' handling on
these, due to their being previously non-existent 'adjustable
camber' (2) on the rear wheel of the afflicted corner of the car.

Was good fun to drive, actually... and considering it spent its time
being ragged to death by a freshly licenced 17 year old when I got my
hands on it, pretty good on fuel as well.

A previous owner had fitted Renault 5 alloys to it, one of which went
to its death when the car ploughed on into the kerb on a tight corner
in a car park (3) and the rim section divorced itself from the centre
    of the wheel.

Oh how we laughed as we struggled to lift the front corner of the car
up off the kerb so I could get a jack under it to change the wheel...

    (1) I was given the car by my dad with the nearside rear shot - paid
out for this to be sorted only for the other side to give out three
months later, at which point it was traded with a scrapyard for a pair
of bumpers for its Nissan Cherry replacement.

    (2) With adjustable equating to there being several inches of camber
with a mind of its own in play and with the only thing stopping the
corner from collapsing completely being the rather thin outer sill.

    (3) Having been happily taking advantage of the fairly deep snow in
the more obscured areas of a local supermarket car park to practice
handbrake turns, it didn't occur to me that the snow on the corners of
the main access road in and out of the car park might have actually
been packed down into something resembling the surface of an ice
    rink...

Yes, I'd heard of similar silliness - I was at teacher and you'd be
surprised at the (now) allegedly dangerous activities I encouraged...

    Or perhaps not.

Whatever its colour, I *ALWAYS* refer to it as a 'blackboard'.

    On principle.

If you're using a white board and marker pens to illustrate a point
how the **** can it be called a blackboard? That's not a principle,
    it's rank stupidity.

Hang on, I've just noticed the cross post and realised I'm reading the
scribblings of someone who still thinks that push rods are the work of
a genius and anything over 6v is a waste.

    Think of the children.

A spurious shard of conker could have a small childs eye out. An
errant conker could go through a SCHOOL WINDOW rupturing someones
    NECK.

    Won't someone ..... etc etc ..
