Not a good day

Today I found out that the girlfriend of one of my best mates died
suddenly of a brain haemorrhage on Sunday, aged 38. I'd known Alison for
almost 25 years, from the days when she was one of the young biker
chicks hanging out in The Crown in Bedford. For the last 7 years she'd
been living with my mate Steve, after they met at work.

I saw her last week, and she was looking forward to getting out on the
back of Steve's ZX7R this year, and attending some BSB and WSB rounds.

It just made me realise how vulnerable we are, even when we're off our
    bikes.

    Indeed.

Time like an ever rolling stream, bears all its sons away, etc.

I'm not usually moved by these announcements but I must admit to
having a tear in my eye. At least she didn't know anything about it.

Chin up mate and live. You owe her that.

    jsp says...
I've had 2 heart attacks, and never felt this vulnerable.
It's the only way for me to go.

  7. In Lozzo triped:
I've had a few reminders of this over the past few years, especially when a
very good friend a year younger succumbed to flu of all things and then when
a college flat mate died from cancer at the same time as his wife was in the
latter stages of terminal cancer too :(

It kind of puts into perspective how safe motorcycles can be.

Always. I hope when my time comes it's something quick, painless, and
    easy to clean up.

  9. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
    Sudden is best. Probably the way she'd have preferred it. 38, though;
    it's a fucker.
That gave me a moment ... then I realised the Alison Davies I knew would
be a good ten years older.

Some kind of gastric infection, probably biological rather than viral as
    was originally suspected.

I've still heard nothing of my test results though.
