Not a dodgy e-bay auction at all.

To save me from Pip's wrath, it's a ZX-6R J2 in London with 3600 miles on.

The starting price is a grand and a half and there's no reserve, free
delivery in the UK and the seller will even throw in one of the two matching
    lids that they have.

    Sounds great, except for ...

    1. Brand new seller.
    2. One of the photos clearly shows the bike with a New York licence plate.
    3. Use of the term "fender eliminator" in the description tends to suggest
    Merkin bike.
    4. Lid shown is a piss-pot job, although to be fair it is black.

So then, anybody fancy risking a grand and a half on it?

    Nope ... I thought not.

Can anybody out there pick anything off the For Sale sign? The first
picky looks as though it might be £22xx.

  5. Yup. Quite an amateur attempt really. I've reported it to
eBay for what good it will do.

Maybe you should have copied your complaint to the Merkin Embassy, if he
is a scrote then they should pass details back home and have his lawyer
    get richer.

So amateur, that if you hover your mouse cursor over two of the pics
on the eBay auction, they tell you it is in Levittown, NY.

So that a non-ebayer understands, what's the point? Is it so the
buyer pays up, and then the seller tells them to **** off and keeps
the dough? Aren't there ebay rules about that? And, like, laws, and
    stuff.

  11. Although when I politely asked the eBay chap what was going on
    he replied thusly:-

    hi,
is my auction and i have put this item from ebay and from
    www.chooseyouritem.com!
i want to sell the bike ASAP

Well the one in question has gone up by 550 quid since I posted it, so
people are bidding on it despite being able to see that it is registered in
    New York.

There's probably just no helping some people.

Well the hints would be that the seller is brand new, they've never bought
or sold anything on e-bay before. Obviously every seller has to be new at
some point, but if they've at least bought something you have a small amount
of faith that they have valid contact details entered into the system.

Secondly they're offering an expensive bike for a low price with no reserve
and none of the usual "the bike is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the
right to end the auction early" which sellers normally stick in to cover
themselves if it looks like the bidding isn't going to get close to the
    value of the vehicle.

Thirdly they're offering free postage in the UK, which seems unlikely. I'm
pretty sure that the deal they're trying for is you send them the payment
for the bike and they deliver it to you ... i.e. you send them your money
and then wait for them to show up. And wait. And wait.

Finally the bike has got a little Stars 'n' Stripes stuck on the frame -
even if the bike isn't Merkin would you buy a bike off a Brit with so little
    self-esteem? :)

So, basically ebay-nerd stuff. I'm pretty sure I never want to get
    involved in ebay.

Though I do want a Herman Miller office chair. **** it, I think I'll
just pay the shop price and be done with it.
    heh.

And apart from that the bike has one of those little side reflectors,
as required by the Yank fraternity, stuck on the caliper mounting
    bolt. Dead giveaway.
