    Stuff.

I mean, it's not the biggest bike in the world, so it's going to be a
bit cramped with me on it. It's not got a /very/ big engine, so it'd
need to have the tits revved off it to go anywhere (not that I've got a
problem with doing that when I feel like it, I just don't want to have
to do it all the fucking time). I can't imagine it'd be very good with
Clare on the pillion seat either, although that's less of a problem than
    it used to be.

I was thinking about it on the way down to Leeds this morning: I /think/
I want another Falco. Or, possibly, some other litre-ish bike, in the
"used to be cutting edge but now it's a sports tourer" category.

For one brief moment I considered a Fireblade, but it's a Honda; I've
had a Honda, and while it was competent, it wasn't really exciting. So
now I'm thinking Kawasaki: how much is a reasonable ZX9R going to cost
me, and when's our IFA going to rearrange our mortgage so I can afford
    to go and buy one?

This is true. I could just stick the fairing panels back in the roof of
the garage, where they have been for the last however many months, and
    she'd never know.

P.S.: It ran yesterday. Briefly. Then stopped. There followed a brief
interlude (~2.5 hours) of swearing and multimeters, followed by it
    running again.

Very annoying: there it was, ticking over nicely on the driveway. I
touched the front brake lever to see if the brake light was still
working, and the whole plot died. The only things that would work were
the idiot lights: no headlight, no indicators, no brake/tail lights, no
dial lights, and definitely no starting.

Turns out it had lost a ground connection somewhere in the loom between
the stuff near the battery and the stuff near the front (I guess it must
have been down to a few strands, and the extra current from the brake
light blew them out), but the idiot lights use a different ground
connection which is why they were still working.

Of course, the fact that the wiring loom in the BoL doesn't match the
textual description *or* the actual bike didn't help much. Grrr.

They're physically very big actually. Waaay bigger than the current
    generation of litre bikes.
Not particularly revvy, either, tho obviously more so than a Bandit or
    a prilly twin.
    This is true enough.
You want a 9R, you do.
    About 3k, I think.
    tomorrow.

    hth.

You know, given the circumstances[1], I think you're going to have to
consider "operator error" as a primary cause here.

    [1] i.e. it was you.

Contrary to expectations, it's big enough for Dodger to feel entirely
    comfortable.
Au contraire. 7k rpm equates to a ton in top, and it's got enough
grunt that it was only rarely that I made it above 10k during
Saturday's hairpin-fest in the Ardennes, and that was with me trying
to cling to (an admittedly leisurely) Bonwick's tail.
    Pillion? What's that?

I was only asking because tidy 7Rs can be picked up for about £2200
    quid, sometimes even less. DAMHIK.

That's not difficult though, is it? My pushbike is bigger than the
    current generation of litre bikes.
I'd like something with a bit more kick, really.
    Same with most sportsbikes, really.
It's funny you should mention that...
    Hmmm... interesting.
    Yes, thanks.

It wasn't me, it was 9 hours' worth of Affligem still swilling round
my system, is what it was.

And couldn't you just have some brackets made to put the existing pegs
further up and back? Probably need a long gear rod thingy.

Well, yes - that's all rearsets are, aren't they? Just that the fancy
    GBP300 ones are multi-adjustable, super-lightweight and anodised - I
think I just need some bits of metal with a few holes in them.
    That's the easy bit.

Buggered if I know what it's called. Bit of rod that connects the
pedal to the twisty shaft bit that goes into the gearbox.

I fort rearsets (at the sort of price anyway) were full bracket,
pegs, pedal assemblies, not just the bracket bit.

    Ah, just the man.

While I wouldn't want to presume that you might have time to molish such
a thing for me, do you think you could see your way to giving a few
pointers, so that I could get FiL to do it for me in the school workshop?
Ummm. Ah. They're handed, are they? Yes, I suppose they must be, really.

You'd use a die to cut the thread on the new rod, wouldn't you? Taps are
    for holes.

Just turn the die upside-down, surely? ;^)
