    Hi all,

Just started having this sound on my 73 Commando 750.

In 3rd gear, upon accelration, there is a highpitched whine, increasing with
revs. If the rev level out (steady throttle), I hear a pulsating grinding
sound (like a disc rubbing which is not true). With decreasing throttle, the
    sound stops.

Only happens in third gear. In second gear I can hear a bit of the
aforementioned whine, but no grinding 'shu-shu-shu-shu'.

I suspect a clutch problem. Any help here?
    Thanks in advance.

I suspect the end journal on one of the shafts in the gear-box.

The gearbox layshaft bearing often fails unless it has been upgraded to a
roller bearing. If it collapses totally it could lock the gearbox. Don't
ride it until you find out for sure what it is. You can dismantle the
gearbox in situ if needs be. Another indication of the bearing failing is
that sometimes the kickstart moves down on it's own as you ride along.

Not on a nold Britter mate. You're going to need a Parker. With a
    left-hand thread.

    'S OK. It'll be Imperial.

Or should it be a 4BA pen for a nold Britter of that vintage?

On reflection, more like a 2BA, IWHT. With a 7/17" head. And four
    washers.
