My younger brother had one of those when they were new. Hated it so much he traded it on a Suzi water-bottle within six months. Theo
http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/black-side-down-new-nortons-found-in-belgium.aspx Welcome to last century, or at least last quarter. I do believe I posted the very same link back on April 20 this year under the subject "Anyone for a shiny new... " Cheers
I'd wager than none of the buyers of these machines had any intention of actually *riding* it. Here's an interesting thought: In the story they only had 1 of the crates opened. Do you reckon any of these collectors would be so intent on "not opening the original packaging" that they still don't know exactly what they've bought? BTH
To be fair, it *had* been updated with what the Nortons fetched at auction ($21,000-$23,000, don't know if that's USD or AUD though). BTH
Must admit, wondered what they went for. Lusted after a Mark IIa when they were still readily available.
I can understand $21,000 to $23,000 for a mint un opened Norton, I might even be tempted to pay that myself. I think the guy who paid $12,000 for one of those horrible, bland faux Matchless (rotax engine) singles got ripped off though. They were a bad bike when they were new! G-S
