I owned a Norton 600 single in the late 1950's. Could one of you
older guys tell me what model it might have been? I hope it is not
the onset of demensia but I honestly can't remember,

    Commander or Commanche or something?

    Thanks a lot.

If it was a single, couldn't have been a Commando - those were 750 and
850 twins, and were late 60s to mid 70s.

I think the postwar singles were the ES2 and the Model 18 but damned
if I can remember what the differences were. There were sidevalve ones
too, and a couple of OHC ones, but I'm pretty sure they were race only.

<google google> Have a look at http://www.noc.co.uk/ there might be some
pics there that jog your memory.

  6. Try these - http://fair.nznow.net/bikes.htm - 2 x Norton ES2 500 single
    [both sold fast] etc.
Dominators, 99s, Commandos, 650SS etc were all twins. 600 single?????
Otherwise, sorry, it is definitely dementia. Doctor Classix prescribes
strong grog and a herbal mixture to recover lost memory. Cheers from
    bike country Canterbury NZ.

Thank's Boxer and everyone who replied. I looked up the Model 19S (S
for single I guess) 1955-1958 ohv 597cc at this address and it
certainly looks the same. It was definely OHV but unfortunately this
site hasn't got the model name.

    Thanks again.

The S was for spring (rear suspension) the R was for Rigid.

That's right because it had a sprung suspension. And it could go like
the clappers, a really awesome machine for a sixteen year old.
