    Quite Right!

No, TBH, although I'm a non smoker, in fact gave up 30 odd years ago, I
still feel that in general it should be the individuals choice.

Certain things I feel need to be addressed regards smoking, but most are
    just common sense anyway.
When friends come to visit, for instance, they respect my wish not to smoke
in my house, and they go outside.
One gripe I do have, and that's smoking in cars. Again no-one smokes in
mine, but of late I have had to have a couple of different Co cars and
rentals. Most of these have been smoked in and it causes me serious problems
being acute asthmatic. A number of company's that supply Co cars, seem now
to have a "no smoking in the car" policy. One colleague who works for a
different co to me, tells me his co 'fines' people for smoking in their Co
cars. They are asked not to, but have the choice if they wish, but at the
end of lease, they are 'fined' 1K ukp as the lease company reckons the car
    is devalued by that amount.

Smoking in pubs and restaurants, well, that opens up another debate..

<fire extinguisher at the ready, for all the flaming coming my way ;o) >

That is totally out of order and that's coming from a non smoker and someone
who actually detest smoke. It's an infringement human rights.

There is always a team on duty specially trained at helping people fall
down the station steps. The rest just have to be fir enough to point a
    camera at motorists.

Yes. You have to pass three fitness tests in the first two years (and as
long as you can pass them it matters not one bit if you smoke) but after
that there is no standard testing done

And then there are the ex-smokers who spend all day telling people how
they're not smoking now and how they don't want a cigarette and how
they're so pleased that they've stopped smoking and how much money
they save by not smoking and go on all the time about how they're not
going to smoke again when it's obvious the only thing that is on their
mind is fucking smoking while sitting in the smoking room at work
eating a sarnie just to inhale the air.

    **** off, is it.

Would you also say it was an "infringement of human rights" if they
banned heroin-users from applying for the positions?

It's not the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I hate smoke but I honestly
felt the article went too far.

If I was a recovering alcoholic or drug addict would you also rubbish
    my opinions?
