I can't help thinking that Ulster is wrong place to be investing in
    speed cameras. Like, "duuuuh".

Curiously all three, including the one just out there--> have been done
    over.

What a civilised, enlightened place it is. I'd be tempted to move back,
except for the fact that SWMBO would never entertain it.

I just spent the day in Enniskillen. Nice little town. Very high standard of
tottie, unexpectedly slim mean average. Then again I can see the Falls Road
    from my attic window here....

    Fair point...

If you weren't wearing a bowler hat and an orange collar or a
Rangers/Linfield shirt or a PSNI or Army uniform then you were safe enough.
In fact, you were a darn sight safer there then in many inner city areas on
    the mainland.

Oh, if you were a traffic warden or TV licence detector person or speed
camera installer or other looser type job then you might well have been
    fucked ;o).

Not my experience in a Chippy up there. Took one look at my UK reg, the crew
cut (no beard on the day) and as soon as I spoke I was asked several
    *pertinant* questions (1).
Part of my retort was that T&S was giving birth (locally) so I was over for
the event which immediately prompted the next question: is she local to here
and have you chosen a name. Yes and Aaron (1) satisfied them.
I like living somewhere a bit edgy mind.

    (1) neatly the small Scottish island town of origin meant SFA to them
    (2) Ok middle name but Robert didn't sound very Provo I decided.

I guess I am just used to that scenario and it's what I consider to be
normal ). Being friendly to someone and trying to suss them out is all
kind of the same thing here ;o). You would get similar questions from
anywhere else in the country if you're not a local regardless of your accent
and registration. You're right that it can be very uncomfortable if you're
in a place where you feel you shouldn't be, but that just takes practice!

I used to work for a small IT firm that supplied networks and IT
support to Solicitors all over NI, including a few up the Falls. I
only got hassled /at gunpoint/[1] once. Mind you, they soon left me
alone when they found out that I was the one fixing the problem at
their local - dodgy, bent - solicitors - I was practically viewed as
    performing a humanitarian service.

    [1] never great fun, but it's a /lot/ worse when you're sober, I'm
    here to tell you.

LOL. That's the Rt. Hon. Mr Sands MP to you. FWIW, Robert is a perfectly
neutral name, as is Darren but more so ;o).

Sorry, I forgot. (OK, I lied. I'll never forget that as it was the worst
period of my life as far as sectarian abuse is concerned). I have no idea
how a dead ex terrorist MP should be addressed but I'm sure many others do
    ;o).
LOL. Sorry again, I was supposed to be talking to Hog but couldn't be arsed
to make another post in the correct part of the thread.

When, exactly, did Bobby Sands become a Privy Councillor, then?

well, exactly, but he *was* elected as MP for the constituency of
Fermanagh and South Tyrone in 1981, whilst on hunger strike, in The
    Maze.

    Indeed.

That would make him Bobby Sands MP, then.

Somehow I couldn't imagine Maggie being dead keen on having him in the
    cabinet.

    As it were.
