Hi Guys ... jeez its been a while since i posted around here!...

OK the boss (my wife) has given me the go ahead for a new toy since
the bimmer got sold and we needed a car more than a bike!

So ... with a budget of about 6K - im looking at a
    93-94 gsxr750 - private sale, or
    94 ducati 600SS
96 bandit 1200 from rock motorcycle in port macquarie

Other option that i havnt found yet ... at the right price
    YZF600
    GSX750F
    VFR750/800

Most of my riding will be short trips to work, but with the occasional
long haul to sydney and back (around the 6-800 k in a day type stuff)
so that kinda rules out the gsxr maybe (we will see when i take it for
    a spin).

never had or ridden a duke, so any info about it would be good - the
bandit.. well cant really go wrong with one of them -

    cheers

You can buy my Bandit, same year model, for that or perhaps a little
less, if you want to have an alternative option....

12 months rego, noise legal carbon can, gearsack, 50K on the clock etc
    Contact me if interested.
Dunno, 800K day on a Gixxer should be OK, once in a blue moon. Get a
tank bag to lie on to take the weight off the wrists.

How could I argue that <grin>. Bullet proof, torquey motor. Solid
    reliable UJM.

    easy to find
should find one for the money
    same again
750's are around without looking too hard with under 30K in great condition
    for around the $6K mark

another option is TRX850 sub $6K as well

You have excellent taste in bikes and probably couldn't go wrong any of
your chosen options, but I honestly feel (a totally unbiased opinion)
that you would best off with my 600ss.

    Details here http://www.ozht.com/600ss/

And yeah they're not real fast, 190kph terminal velocity on a good day
with a tail wind, but its good fun and pretty cheap to run. It also makes
    all the right noises.

Good luck with your quest, AH

Compared with what? $200 odd for valve adjustment. Belts? Not toooo bad
    $$$.

The rest is the same as any other bike except that the lack of grunt
means you dont munch rear tyres quite as regularly as something with
    superbike power.

It has been super reliable bar the voltage reg. I put a CB900 unit on
and it has been perfect ever since. I will be buying another Ducati or
two yet. Of course jap bikes do have their advantages.

    Whatever!

yep, go for a 900 or a 750. the 60cc is nice, but as slow as one of those
