Nolan N102 with n-com

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Fraser Johnston, Jul 21, 2008.

  1. Anyone got one? Looking at a helmet upgrade for me and the girlfriend and the
intercom/flip front combo looks great. I guess we are going to go to the shops
and try some on. Are helmets significantly cheaper online? I'd prefer to
support my local bike shop but not if I am paying 40% more than online.

Got the N102 and love it but haven't got the N-com stuff. All the
accessories are more expensive than the cost of the helmet so be
prepared to outlay some money. Bloke on the Tassie ferry parked next to
me earlier in the year had it and reckoned it worked great up to 100kph.
Not sure whether that was it's limit or his. The helmet is comfy but
most people agree that it's louder than most other helmets.

Yep, and it's fantastic. Quite reasonably priced, and worth every cent.
Not sure about online prices, I got mine with the new bike. Haven't
tried the comms gear, but it looks like it should all fit together
pretty well, even if it is a bit pricey.

    Wot e sed.
Except mine is a little quieter than my previous HJC flip-front (not
    necessarily a strong benchmark).
The flip-up tinted half-visor is beautifully functional.

If the rubber flap at the chin made a better seal, and extended around
the sides more, then it would be significantly quieter.

And yes, the flip-up tinted half-visor is the master touch.

  6. I've still got the N100, but Carol has the N102 and loves it. I've heard
of a N103, which has the sun visor part on the INSIDE of the normal
visor, this eliminating one source of wind noise. Can't seem to find the
    bastard anywhere, though.

Carol's visor is starting to scratch from where the sun visor part
vibrates against it. Mind you, she's had it for a couple of years and
probably better than 30,000 kms of use.

  7. The current ones have a couple of tiny rubber dots on the inside of
the dark visor to stop the chafing. I have a 102 and love it. Yes,
noisy, but I usually wear earplugs.

The 103 isn't imported here, and I've seen some overseas criticisms of
the internal visor not giving the extent of glare protection that the
exterior one does on the 102.

Thanks for the heads up. The N103 probably hasn't been released in
Australia yet. Just did a quick google and some discussion on a forum
suggests that the inner visor doesn't pass AS1698.

I just looked at the Nolan website and checked out the new helmet.
Looks like an improvement, however the N102 does have advantages over
it. For one, with the tinted visor on the outside, when riding during
the daylight, once the visor gets dirty from bugs etc, I can flip up the
external tinted visor and I have a clear visor underneath so improved
visibility to the next servo without having to stop and clean. Also,
when I'm riding on unsealed roads, I flip the tinted visor down whenever
other vehicles throw up dust, so that I always have a dust free visor
underneath. With the tinted visor in the inside, neither of these seem
    like viable options any more.
I completely destroyed my N102 clear and tinted visors in India last
year in the space of a couple of weeks just from dust getting in between
the two visors and the vibration and movement of the visors scratching
the shit out of them. If you get replacements from the bike shop, the
new external tinted visors have a few tiny rubber bumps stuck across the
lower edge to stop the visors from touching each other. The replacement
costs of the two visors however is about 1/4 of the price of a new
helmet, so if it's a few years old, replacement of the whole helmet
    might be more economical.
