I don't really understand this at all - they're talking about coming
up behind a bike ridden by someone you don't know, and worrying about
    whether to overtake or not?

My policy on that one is "if I *can* overtake, I *will* overtake".

If you're talking about being on a ride-out with people you know,
that's different - I might well sit behind someone even though I'd
    like to be going faster.

I know from the car trade that the finance is worth more than the
    sale, in many cases.

That's the lot in the "sub-culture", right? Well, **** *them*.

Because he hasn't got a new bike and doesn't want to feel inferior?

Not in my experience. Go in waving metaphorical (or real) wads of cash
and they'll start to view you as a future cash cow and bend over
backwards to help, including arranging test rides on anything they can
get, both before and after purchase.

    You obviously don't look like you've really got money :-}

I think there (if it is proven to exist) is a sub-sub-sub culture.
    You've got the bikers (sub1), you've got the couriers (sub2) and you've
got the Poles, Brazilians, Columbians, Seth Effricans, a few Aussies and
all those in between (sub3 - divided into more subs, depending on
whether they wear helmet balaclavas and such, and again another sub if
they wear them in Summer, too)

Especially if it's December and you're looking at a GSXR1000. Dealers
don't shift many bikes like that at that time of year and you can get
    a bloody good deal.

Had to pay nearly full price for mine, IIRC, last June. I think I
haggled them down by about 2% in the end :-} I suspect the Swiss
motobike retail trade works on a slightly different basis than that in
    the UK.

Have you picked up the habit yet of saying 'Hola!' to every man, woman,
child, dog, tree, outhouse, parked car or shrub you pass in the street?

Porl bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the
    lines of:
You'd be great as a diplomat, you.
