No warranty?

    Oh-oh, I spy a kenny-stooge.

Have you actually read anything that's been written in this thread? Of
course, if you sell something under false pretences you'll be liable
for any problems that occur, but if you clearly state, and ensure that
the customer agrees with, e.g. "sold for spares only, not a runner,
engine falling apart" then an exploding engine clearly falls outside
the realms of "fit for purpose" as required by the SoGA.

Exactly what part of this is giving you your apparent difficulty of
    understanding?

That was an extreme example to make the point, but I think you knew
that. The point is a dealer does not have to provide a warranty as Ken
claims, they only have to provide full disclosure. If you then find the
vehicle has a fault which wasn't described, you /may/ have a case for
getting that fault rectified, depending on how serious it is, the
general condition of the vehicle, how it was described, the
requirements you gave to the dealer ('fit for purpose') etc etc.

To get back to the original post that kicked this off, buying a bike
with pitted stanchions is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, assuming
you're happy it's priced accordingly, & you knew they were pitted when
    you bought the bike.

Well, a quick perusal of your contributions to this thread has finally made
up my mind. For a very brief while it looked like you might be on your way
to something approaching reasonable behaviour. However, it was too good to
last and you have clearly reverted to type - that type being "troll". Its
very clear that you have no real knowledge of or interest in bikes. The
only reason that you post is to provoke arguments. You hardly ever
contribute anything of real interest or usefulness. On the other hand you
put a lot of effort into trying to appear superior and trying to put other
people down. Tragically for you it always rebounds and leaves you looking
more and more inadequate - a sitution that is likely to result in a mental
breakdown sooner or later (and may already be happening, judging by your
recent track record). As I don't want to participate in your private misery
and as you appear to be beyond help at the moment its killfile time for you.
I would be VERY grateful if you could reciprocate by killfiling me. That
will reduce the risk of any future interaction.

It wouldn't be 'a nice little runner' then, would it? When I worked in a
motorcycle shop we sold lots of crap old bikes, accurately described,
and this was before the Sale of Goods Act came into being. If a bike had
a known defect it was pointed out, which probably explained why our
customers were drawn from Southend to East Lodon, and from Grays to
    Chelmsford...
It must be the company you keep.
Quite right too, but don't tar all dealers with the same brush.

A damaged insurance right off is hardly a road going vehicle
    .................is it?

So speaks the voice of experience...............seems this numpty knows
about as much about buying and selling bikes, as he does about taking
part in off road comp events!

This just doesnt work..............if the customer buys a bike from a
trader and it blows up, he has recourse in law, even if the faulty
engine has been noted on sales invoice...............looks like this
information is falling on deaf (and dumb!) ears though!

If you are able to set up an "autobot" then you know a lot more about
computors than you do about bikes!

You are just plain wrong. You couldn't be any wronger if you tried.

Note to others - how does this sound as the text for the auto-reply?

Ken () gurgled happily, sounding much like
    they were saying :
They have V5s. You stated unequivocally that the only way to sell a less-
than-perfect vehicle was to sell it without a V5. They have V5s.

Are you now going back on that, and saying that it is actually perfectly
possible for the motor trade to sell a vehicle *with a V5* in less-than-
perfect condition with no fear of comeback under SoGA?

How about a fairly typical classic car dealer such as :-
    http://www.marchclassicmg.co.uk/cars_for_sale.htm

    Specifically -
    http://www.marchclassicmg.co.uk/pop12.htm
described as "Good original running car for restoration. Very solid body,
    V5 available."

    or

    http://www.marchclassicmg.co.uk/pop18.htm
described as "Running, in need of restoration. New wood body-bed,
excellent chassis. Some new parts included. Original registration number
    on V5."

They're not insurance write-offs (or even right-offs), nor are they
"damaged". How do you square those with your previous stance on SoGA?

Could it be that you're talking complete and utter unmitigated self-
important bollocks? Again? And that SoGA requires nothing more than that
the goods are fit for the purpose *for which they are sold*, and that the
only real factor is that they have not been misdescribed?
