  5. What is it with this ginge business? I mean, what if it *has* already
been posted? It's only the sad bastards *that read every single fucking
thread* that are going to be bothered. Now if the url was in the subject,
or the subject line was pretty much the same, then I'd understand the
complaints. Those of us that don't read every thread might notice one
subject line and not another. And sometimes the subject line doesn't say
anything about the subject. ie; if the subject is "Poo", chances are I
won't read it and therefore will miss the pleasure of following yet
    another link to something "funny".

Or am I missing the point?

Generally I'm with you on this. I don't shout "ginge" and there are
many references I'd rather see twice than miss.
In this case it's a double ginge AND from the keeper of the
gingeometer - so a bit special.

Well the point in this case, is a golden opportunity to rip the piss
mercilessly out of Cab, being owner of the anti-ginge machine and all.

Well I'm not a fan of Clarkson, but ANYONE who watches Top Gear (and that
includes me) must know what to expect from him and he rarely disappoints. If
he changes his "act", the show will surel die a death.
Is he worth making a complaint about though?

Indeed. Can't wait to see his response to it in this week's TG. Going
on past experience, he'll say something as part of the Stig
introduction - something like 'Some say, he's managed to go through his
whole life without making a SINGLE WHINEY COMPLAINT TO THE BBC'.

  13. **** them. JC might be a twat, imo, but he hasn't phoned up any
pensioners and told them he's been shagging their daughters over the
    sofa.

I think it's gone beyond that. It now seems that you can complain
about what someone says on TV/radio even if you never watch/listen to
    the show in question.

Didn't Mary Whitehouse do that (yes, I've been watching season 1 of
    Spitting Image).

Now? Not something new is it? You're old enough to remember Mary
    Whitehouse.

Widening the issue to the political arena. Would I have to personally
witness a meeting, where someone publicly promoted homophobic violence,
before I am allowed to complain to my MP or Chief Constable?

I'm with you, in as far as many complaints are concerned, the reaction is
totally out of proportion. What you say above, though, is bollocks.

I'll have you know she used to live at the end of the same cul-de-sac[1]
as me - but not at the same time.

[1] Sounds to smutty for Mary somehow.

I seem to recall Whitehouse making a point of watching unsavoury
material, just so she could complain about it. And then get it banned
so that no-one else could watch it.
I think we're talking about two significantly things. The TV/radio
thing is just about saying something that might cause *someone*
offence. Nothing illegal, just causing offense.

Whereas, you're example (promoting violence) is, I think, illegal.

So I put it to you, Mr West, that you're talking bollocks :)
