No Licence for Trackday?

What's a cheek is having to pay five pounds 'insurance', so that if
they cancel the trackday, they'll transfer your booking to a different
date. WTF is that all about? Surely if they cancel the day, they
    should refund your money.

I considered not paying it, and claiming the money back off the credit
card company if it did get cancelled. In the end though, I couldn't be
bothered with the hassle, and payed up.

  2. And you need a road licence to get an intermediate race licence, so
you'd think that would suffice. Just because you're banned from riding
on the road doesn't mean you're unfit to ride on a track.

Which is what I was alluding to and thought we would not have to point
    out. Sigh...

  6. While I was banned, the only track day I was allowed on was with Dave
Wood at Mallory. He knew I could ride a bike (up to a point), so
couldn't see a problem. He was insisting on licences publicly though.

He's doing very well this year.

Would he have a dilemma if someone only had a racing licence?

  8. Well, apparently someone did complain about me being allowed on without
a road licence. I don't know how this person knew (my big mouth I
expect), but Dave just said **** 'em.

Being competent to ride isn't just the ablity to make it round a corner or
    two.

With 20 other people of random levels of skill on random bikes and random
    levels of track experience.
With 20 other people with similar license, broadly similar levels of skill
on similarly matched bikes and plenty of track experience.
    No?

Not only ordinary club racing, but until recently the KRC series was

    overtaking some riders.

The track experience thing is also a myth, isn't it? A lot of 'racers'
can't afford to do track days. In fact, I'd go as far as to say, I
probably have more track time over the year than most racers.

IMO, the KRC provides more track time for you money than trackdays or
    other club racing.

Last year we had around 8 hours of racing each, which is probably
equivalent to 5 or 6 trackdays. In addition to that we had around 3 - 4
hours of practice each. So in all that's about 8 trackdays worth of
tracktime. But the main thing is we had a great time doing it.

BTW Champ, how many racing laps did we do as a team last year?

    I estimated 1min 30 secs per lap.

So there's no distinction between novices, intermediate, clubman and
    national riders then?
I take it the guys you are lapping at the back are those with novice
    licenses.
Course, straight into the national category though eh?
Fine, the thread's getting tedious and off the point anyway.
