Abstract for Mark N: Rossi should move on to some obscure AMA series to
finally prove himself without the help of eurotrash conspiracy.

    Others, carry on.
At least not until Räikkönen has proven to be either a success or a
    failure at Ferrari.

Rossi doesn't really have any of the experience that the current
promising F1 drivers do. He hasn't gone through the European minor
series and competed his way to the top. He can probably squeeze his lap
times within a few seconds of the top, like he did in the test runs at
Ferrari, but that gap is just too much for him to be competitive in F1.

Rossi's marketing value could be more useful in the WRC series, which
has radically declined in the last 10-20 years. Nobody has heard of
Sebastien Loeb's victories in the WRC, but what if Rossi was driving a
    brand new Citroen?

There would be a lot of media coverage boasting the superiority of the
car that looks just like the one you can buy from your nearest retailer.
Improved media coverage might also bring the retired factory teams back
    to the series.

You don't have much competition in WRC, but you do get to drive F1-ish
cars disguised in more traditional looking chassises. Rossi finished
pretty well in the Rally of New Zealand, considering that he is pretty
much a novice in the sport. Additionally his age isn't a problem in WRC,
where the top drivers tend to be almost 40 years old.

On the other hand, he might just as well retire after winning that one
last championship in this or the next season:

    Obscure? How revealing..
That might be a little easier said than done, the days of him bitch slapping
the field may be in the past, but we'll see...

    lolsson observes:
A parallel, sorta, here in the US rallye series. Travis Pastrana
is a featured guy on the Subaru website for his drives in a Sub
rallye car, he was 2006 champ. No pics of him doing a double
backflip on his RM250 though. Nobody follows rally here but
    Pastrana has a huge following.

Did he make the decision after testing this year's bike, or before?

    130? Wow, that's pretty strong..
It's been fairly mild this year so far, I've had to turn the heat on for
three days this winter and then really only at night and as far as 'Tona
goes there are a few that need more clothes, especially so with the downtown
    crowd!

As soon as I wrote that a f-5 like tornado blows through the central part of
the state (fairly close to me) and kills a bunch of folks, go figure...

So whadayu think, is "he" gone, or just letting us talk amongst ourselves?

  9. Still, I hope you didn't do your favourite party trick last night!
Nor planning it tomorrow (forecast is -5 C around here).

Personally, I would not find much joy in his departure, but his way of
telling folks what they should think, which I often find quite amusing, can
and sometimes does have a certain deleterious effect on this group as a
    whole..

Heh, I guess I'll have to come up with some AMA screw-ups(which won't be
hard!) and try to smoke his worthless left coast ass out. Then again, maybe
    I shouldn't...

    T3 has the brilliant idea:
How about the latest fuel dust-up?

    http://www.cyclenews.com/ShowStory.asp?HeadlineID=10366

I guaran-fuckin-tee you the fuel dump at the SX is still
a roped off area where anybody and everybody with a
permanent pass has access. Kvamme is right that
the AMA is screwing up the fuel issue but he's on the
wrong track looking for why. I think.

Sure, come by grab your fuel and drop a few O2 tabs in the rest..
They need to provide fuel for everyone, from the same barrel, or pump and
someone should stand there and pump it, though I wouldn't be surprised if it
doesn't take a while for them to catch on. Remember the deal last year with
Carmichael? I guess a pit lane speed at Daytona was more important, by the
way, I understand they're running Moto-ST at speed week, hmmm. Did you see
where Barriss (I think?) and a few that were shown the door lately have
formed a motor sports management company? Double hmmm....

I hope not, but as you know history hasn't been to kind to our limey
cousin's and he was down pretty far at the Fontana test too, so.. Myself,
I'm waiting to see what this Daves kid does in SSport...

I know and I was. That said, you ought to hear the dude talk, it's like a
cross between damnfino(cockney?) and redneck, whatever the case, evidently
it worked good enough to bag the baddest chic ever to stroll an AMA
    paddock...(the bastard!)
