Pretty much this is what they said. Certainly the letter was intended
    to be threatening.

My response, predictably enough, was on the lines of "Bring it on ****,
if you think you are hard enough."

  3. Braking that hard just before the flash, you might've got lucky. Did you
glance at the speedo just after the flash?

  5. OIC. I thought you meant you'd been doing 90 before.

    You're in the shitter.

Just a thought (perhaps a slight glimmer), chap I know was clocked at a
gazillion mph [1] in his Skyline a few years back, and obviously got
    summonsed.
When asked by the court for any mitigating circumstances he stated that he
had no idea he was going so fast as he was on the phone at the time.
Seems this admission changed the whole emphasis of the case, the result was
a largish fine and only 3 month ban for the speeding, but a hefty fine for
the phone use, whereas had the phone not been mentioned the ban / points
situation would have been a lot worse.
As I said, just a thought.
    [1] allegedly around 140mph

From what I've read online the average ban for 90 in a 50 seems to be 2
weeks.. Probably best to admit it, appear to be sorry, and take what's
    given if that's the case.

If I were in Mr Blaney's position I think this is the route I would take.

Bad form and all that, but I meant to add that while I hate this sort
of thing, I don't picky-pick on usenet about it because threads that
descend into spelling/grammar flames are boring.

I hate loose for lose and vice versa and break for brake - too much
dependance on spell checkers and shows up ignorance.
What about samwidge? I do that; I'm a Londoner. I hate ginormous. A
Terry Wogan special I think. At least, it was on his 'show' many years
ago that I first heard it.
Yep, as it comes from hawking. Ooh and 'off his own back' when it
should be 'off his own bat' as it comes from cricket. Owen, sadly, is
    guilty of these last three.

I love to know where phrases come from.

Trouble is, driving while on the phone seems now to be a more serious
crime than drink-driving, paedophilia and voting tory.

I'm not as it happens. I'd read it as you'd seen the camera at 90 and
braked, not braked and been caught at 90.

I'm afraid to say you are fucked and saying nice things isn't going to
make it better. So I may as well get VFM.

Having said that, you don't try and blame everyone else and avoid taking
responsibility for your own idiocy. Which, IMO, is very admirable.

  19. Just tell them you were watching the telly on the dinky little sunvisor

I knew you didn't. And I've been enjoying your comic bon mots at the
    situation.
    Fucking right.
If only it had been a fault accident I could have blamed it on
non-odorous French diesel and harped on for ages about a tiny scratch.
That would have been much better.
