I was 14 in the September of that year. What I'd give to go back to
    those days, or even earlier.

One thing's the same, though: I didn't have a driving licence then, and
I don't have one now (for long).

****, yes! Those bastards used to give me a heart attack, even if they

Oh arse, with a bit of luck you might not have been going as fast as you
    think.

I was 25 and my daughter was born that year. I earned, IIRC 9,625 a
year. During 89 my mortgage went up from a tad under 200- a month to a
tad under 400- oh, and we went from being a 2-earner household to a
    single earer household.

Not my favourite year in terms of stress levels. On the bright side, I
started a part time degree in '89.

When I went over the lines in the road I jabbed the brakes on so hard
the ABS kicked in. Then I let off the brakes. Then the camera flashed.

    You remember correctly.
If they have stopped you, they take your driving license away *on the
    spot*.
You can make your way home by public transport from the police compound
    where they put your bike/car...

Oh arse. How silly of you to lend your car on the day in question to
    your Uncle Bertram from Matabeleland.

I bet you won't do that again. I'd try to contact him care of the UN
workers in the area to have a jolly strong word with him.

    to struggle though.
