    You may recall that I had an unexpected NIP appear a while ago;
stating that I had been caught doing 57 in a 30 limit which I found a
    bit surprising, tbh.

Anyway, I got the photographic evidence and it was definitely me and I
did appear to be doing the naughty. Due to the extreme foreshortening
effect of the long lens on the camera, it looked for all the world as
if I was doing 57 right under a 30 repeater sign, outside a (closed
for the day) school. FFS. We went out to have a look at the site and
were able to pinpoint the position of the van, which was obviously set
up to catch the rush hour traffic coming down a 800 metre NSL straight
into a 30 which has been pushed into the rural side of the road a bit
    further than it had been.

I will have seen the front end of an anonymous white van and trickled
past unaware of the camera pointing out through the back doors. By
timing other traffic along that stretch, I was doing a **** sight less
than 57 for most of the eight seconds between the first picture
centred on my plate and the second shot of me disappearing 500m away
    at 57mph.

I must have tweaked the throttle perhaps 100m short of the NSL sign,
after the last driveway, looking up at the 800m NSL straight. If they
had kept the camera on me they would have seen the numbers climb
considerably higher, as I recall entering the first corner at mebbe
twice NSL, so I got away lightly in a sense.

Bearing all this in mind I returned the NIP duly completed on the last
day that I was permitted. This morning the second letter arrived,
making a conditional offer of 60 quid and three points ... I think
I'll take their generous offer and save the lube for next time ;-)

Sound move. I'd have thought you'd have been expecting a court
appearance for 57 in a 30? When I was stopped on the motorway, the PC
said that if I'd been doing 96 (caught at 93) in the 70, I'd have been
    in court.

The guideline is that a fixed penalty won't be issued if you're more
than 30mph over the limit, so I don't think he was being strictly
correct, as it were. Of course, it's up to his discretion, so he
_could_ have booked you a court date for 96, or even for 93 if he felt
there was some reason to do so.

The Beds Police guideline is 26mph over the limit would warrant a
Court appearance, equating to 56mph - I was borderline. I rang to
request the pics and enquired, then grovelled quite a lot. I think I
    got a result.

    The ACPO guidlines are (were?);

    Limit FPN Summons
    20 25 35
    30 35 50
    40 46 66
    50 57 76
    60 68 86
    70 79 96

I got stopped for 86.6 in a 60 limit and was told I'd get a summons as it
    was just over the threshold.

When I got caught doing 112 in a 60 (racing another bike) the PC said
    "Aren't Moto Guzzis great!"
