It has been coming for a while, as they say. The NIP arrived this
morning; it states a road which I could well have been on at the time
and date stated, it is also within the 14 days, so I can't dispute it.

I am intrigued by a couple of aspects, however:

They allege 57mph in a 30 limit. I am not bad at observing 30 limits,
in general. I do follow the Champ et al school of thought in
moderating my rate of progress as I see fit at the time, relative to
perceived hazards, traffic load, visibility and weather conditions
etc., but I see the point of most urban limits and do tend to obey
    them.

Apparently the alleged offence was observed by a "portable" unit and
"This allegation is supported by photographic evidence". I didn't see
a camera van or a lurking copper with a hairdryer. I assume it was a
van, as there is evidence, of which I have requested a copy. It must
have been a rear-facing camera - or they have a second camera pointing
out the front of the van - this is the interesting bit, to me.

It is a road I've only used three times ever, this occasion was the
most recent. It is a little B road out of a village which goes to NSL
as it traverses a lengthy rural stretch. I do not recall giving it
stick in the village, but that remains to be seen.

I rang the Ticket Office and was advised that Bedfordshire policy is
that offences in excess of 26mph over the limit are dealt with in
    Court. Bummer.

I await the photo with interest, but meantime I'll be returning the
NIP duly completed ASAP. I'll also be going out to have a look at the
road, check the signs, that sort of thing.

It does appear to be a done deal however, so I'll present myself on
The Day all neat and tidy, lubed and ready to spread. I can't
complain as I've never been caught for speeding and my licence has
been clean for over 20 years - whereas if my travels had been logged
and my speed recorded against the limits I was travelling through, I'd
have been in excess by a factor of two on average, I would think.

Bad luck - I am watching the post box with a bit of trepidation at the
    moment as well.

Very nondescript. They use those midi-size Peugeots which are very easy to
conceal behind a hedge or another vehicle.

The ones I've noticed in villages have been forward facing. On the primary
routes they could be either as the tend to be hidden behind a hedge with an
overhead vantage point such as a bridge or crest of a hill.

My sympathies mate... see the thread somewhere down there titled "in front
    of the beak"...

I was quite pleased with 28 days and a £150 fine. I will be reading far
more books and listening to far more music over the next month...

Rule of thumb for court according to my sis: If youre pleading guilty, keep
it short, dont waffle, make the magistrates, stip. judge's or whatevers life
as easy as poss and hope that theyre lenient on you...

    Good luck dude.

Exactly what happened to me. Alleged speeding through roadworks on the M5. I
was supposed to have been LIDAR'ed at 67mph from 70 feet away, by a lone
officer who wrote down the number[1].

I wrote back pointing out that anyone travelling at that speed, clocked from
that distance would have given the officer a fraction over 2 seconds to ping
the vehicle, check the reading, note that it was over the limit, turn around
and read the registration plate that was receding at nearly 70mph. I asked
if given those circumstances it was reasonable to question whether the
officer could have made a mistake.

Got a letter by special delivery the following day informing me that the
    summons had been withdrawn. Result.

I wouldn't prepare the lube for an ass-raping just yet. Wait and see what
    the evidence is first.

[1] I had actually seen the marked plod car from about 1/4 mile away and
hauled on the anchors, so bollocks was I speeding anywhere near him.

You'll be changing your posting name to Nip then.

Good idea, I would certainly endorse it.

I did, and though tyou had a fair result.
Indeed. However, as you will know if you have read any of my putput
here, I do have the propensity to waffle more than a little.
    Cheese, man.

I was hoping that something like this would come up, as I suspect that
is exactly what happened. They have stated that "the allegation is
supported by photographic evidence" ... so if it turns out not to be,
I'll exploit that. Or try to, at least.
Cheers. Hope they're in a good mood.

Indeed. You've had that one though, can't see it happening twice.
    Abso-rutery. If I can find wiggle-room, I'll wiggle like a bastard.
If it comes down to it I'll take my medicine like a good boy,
howsomever. They will only be able to make me pay it at a fiver a
week for the rest of my life, so they won't get rich off my back.

B655 Hexton Road, Barton. We've just been to have a look at it; all I
can think is that I opened it up while still in the 30 limit prior to
the NSL sign. I don't recall gassing it though, unless it was past a
    builder's van.
I'm not desperate, mate. Resigned, really - although if they do ban
me, I'm up shit creek as the bus service here is one bus, twice a day
    - once outbound, once return.

The pic came with the NIP, too, which is blatantly me but is shot from
the side of the road at a very - and I do mean VERY - low angle...

I didn't see anything either so there's no way that this van was
anything other than absolutely hidden. Bastards...

    That's interesting ...
Really bloody interesting. We've just been out there and there is
nowhere along that comparatively short stretch of road that a van
could be concealed. I either had my blinkers on or they were well
    hidden.

I'm feeling less alone, but more victimised now ;-)

Best have a look at www.pepipoo.co.uk
hmm not the best way to end the week... however the word is *allege*.

Don't call them. You need to write to them, ask for assistance in
identifying the rider, as you have no recollection of the alleged
    offence.
Nooooo - if you complete the NIP they have no obligation nor reason to
    send you the photo.

Do not complete the NIP until at least you have the photo. At the
least you have a picture for the album.

Excellent idea. Also check your tax is in place. Yes they
definitely do that too now DAMHIK,IJK.
Why? A piece of paper arrives in the post saying "Give me your
license and a pile of money" - pah - the fun has only just started!
