It has been coming for a while, as they say. The NIP arrived this morning; it states a road which I could well have been on at the time and date stated, it is also within the 14 days, so I can't dispute it. I am intrigued by a couple of aspects, however: They allege 57mph in a 30 limit. I am not bad at observing 30 limits, in general. I do follow the Champ et al school of thought in moderating my rate of progress as I see fit at the time, relative to perceived hazards, traffic load, visibility and weather conditions etc., but I see the point of most urban limits and do tend to obey them. Apparently the alleged offence was observed by a "portable" unit and "This allegation is supported by photographic evidence". I didn't see a camera van or a lurking copper with a hairdryer. I assume it was a van, as there is evidence, of which I have requested a copy. It must have been a rear-facing camera - or they have a second camera pointing out the front of the van - this is the interesting bit, to me. It is a road I've only used three times ever, this occasion was the most recent. It is a little B road out of a village which goes to NSL as it traverses a lengthy rural stretch. I do not recall giving it stick in the village, but that remains to be seen. I rang the Ticket Office and was advised that Bedfordshire policy is that offences in excess of 26mph over the limit are dealt with in Court. Bummer. I await the photo with interest, but meantime I'll be returning the NIP duly completed ASAP. I'll also be going out to have a look at the road, check the signs, that sort of thing. It does appear to be a done deal however, so I'll present myself on The Day all neat and tidy, lubed and ready to spread. I can't complain as I've never been caught for speeding and my licence has been clean for over 20 years - whereas if my travels had been logged and my speed recorded against the limits I was travelling through, I'd have been in excess by a factor of two on average, I would think.
