    FOAK

Having finished my the dregs of my last tin of Nikwax, I went down my
local motorcycling apparel emporium with the intention of purchasing
    another tin.

Having done battle with a spotty YTS-type who said "Nah, it's never been
in tins all the time I've worked in 'ere", does anyone know what has
happened to the proper stuff (possibly based on whaling by-products but
certainly on some sort of oil) that you had to use in the open air to
    stay conscious?

I bought a plastic bottle of something that looks like milk (but more
watery, even after shaking) which claims to do the same stuff as Nikwax.
It even says Nikwax on the bottle.
All it has done so far is given my leathers a Teflon finish in relation
to my bike seat, causing much amusement to SWMBO on observing my new
    tank/rider interface area under braking.

Anyone recommend any current products which will protect leathers whilst
giving the slight showerproofing the old Nikwax used to?
I don't expect total leather waterproofing, just enough rain resistance
when the rain starts so I have time to get the old bin-liners over the
top of the leathers. Like the old Nikwax used to.

Smells good enough to put on toast.

So far I've managed to keep it on my leathers.

Unlike Marmite, which oddly enoughs smells like something you should put on
    your boots.

Explains why my tin had lumps inside and rust on top.
Thanks. Seems to be favourite around here. I'll have to find a shop that
    does it.

I would imagine that vaseline inside the leathers would be useful for many
people around here, for a variety of reasons.

OK. So its Marmite on the boots, Renapur on the leathers and vaseline on
the gloves (nobody suggested that - just something that popped up).

    Thanks all.

    I'd rather eat shit [1]

Popping up not with standing, I don't think you want to put vaseline on your
    gloves.

I would guess it won't sink in, potentially could damage the material (being
petrol based) and just generally is a bad idea.

Use Renapur on the gloves as well.

Mike emerged from their own little world to say
I've been using Gliptone Liquid Leather. It has that lovely smell of new
    leather.

A Lozzo & Paul Varnsverry approved product.
