Ah. Well I'm glad you clarified that.

I may have further questions in due course, if that's ok.

It had changed in less than five years; I used a calculator in my O
level maths in '79. ****, that's almost 30 years ago.

I took mine in '78 and calculators were not allowed. Maybe it was an

As WUN said it could be the exam board; Cambridge in my case (just
    checked.)

Or it could be my faulty memory. But I do clearly remember using both
log tables and a calculator in maths exams; and I didn't complete my A
    levels to examination.

Same here. I did carve all the formulae I thought I'd need onto the
back of my ruler, to be filled in by rubbing a pencil over the
grooves, only to discover them all printed in the exam booklet.

Sure. Although I may not remember much, as I seem to have lost all the
text books, course notes and my "sight book" over the years, so detail
    may well be lacking.

No problem. I'll settle for an answer to "What was your job then?". If
I knew once then I've forgotten!

    I think so.

My O & A level maths were Oxford & Cambridge board,

In 1979 we were not allowed calculators for the O level exams.
Same in 1980 for the Additional O level exam, during year 1 of my A level
    course.
In 1981, for A level, I was not allowed to use a calculator for the pure
maths exam. I could use one for the Applied Maths paper.
