Well duh! To allow you to do MPG calculations in your head as you drive away from the garage, rather than waiting until you've got home and firing up the interweb. A dark day in the annals of education. I bet you can't even use log tables, eh? -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Aye. But did you realise that sliderules were just log tables onna stick? -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (b.rogers at ifrance.com) \`\ | /`/ DS#8 BOTAFOT#3 SbS#2 UKRMMA#13 DFV#8 SKA#2 IBB#10 `\\ | //' `\|/` `
Hmm AFAICR calculators were not allowed in the maths exams and use of log tables had to be demonstrated. I had two slide rules, one of them was the circular variant, of which I was unjustifiably proud.
<fx: fond memories of Casio FX-82 and FX-100> this fx-83ES I have sitting in front of me[1] is completely "other" compared to those old school jobs - it displays fractions and square roots etc. properly.
Oh shit I had a working 82 until a few years ago and the LCD finally died. Even had the brown pvc pouch. Class act.
The standard FX-82 came in a black case, not a brown one. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (b.rogers at ifrance.com) \`\ | /`/ DS#8 BOTAFOT#3 SbS#2 UKRMMA#13 DFV#8 SKA#2 IBB#10 `\\ | //' `\|/` `
things have changed: http://www.casio.co.uk/Products/Calculators/Scientific Calculators/FX83ES/At a Glance/ (I got given one of these with the course material for my IMC)
I still have and use the FX-80[1] that I bought in 1979. [1]just like this[2] but in better condition. [2]http://ead.univ-angers.fr/~schraf/pockets/fx80.jpg
