Nice hols, thanks for asking

  1. Have decided, after three one-day trial scuba dives, to do a basic
course next summer. I likes that, I does, and diving off Corfu appeals
more than diving in a chilly British gravel pit.

I'd also like to take a bike to Corfu some time. Most bikes there are
scooters and small trailies, but for sheer cool, I tipped my Panama to
the dude on the Monster, clad in sandals, T-shirt and jeans, nicely
accessorised with wrap around shades. As he tooled through the town,
helmetless (like everyone, really), his right hand deftly managed
throttle and brake and gearchanges were done clutchless as his left hand
was clamping his mobile phone to his left ear.

Never, ever, seen anyone use a mobile on a bike before. Class.

Rented a four-seater four-door Smart. If anyone is considering buying
one, don't. Annoyingly peaky engine, crude suspension, and list price is
something like nine grand. Ok as a hire car, mind.

Did you go on holiday with ChrisKen? Only he seems to have started
posting here on the same day you return[1].
I've been known to text while riding, but never spoken on it.

[1] At least I presume the new 'ken' is ChrisKen. He's certainly got
    the same inability to read.

Saw a woman in Rome on a mobile. Her helmet didn't cover her ears... I
was quite impressed that someone could ride a scooter in awful traffic
and yak on a mobile at the same time. Makes my sending text messages
whilst riding seem rather tame really.

Got my advanced open water ... I didn't really mind the chilly pits to do
the training, meant more time to enjoy my holiday when out in Cape Town.
However, it also meant that I was able to stand the chilly waters of South
Africa, whereas the South Africans were frozen when they got out.

I've always found the safety levels abroad are nowhere near as good as here
in the UK. In SA, I was told that they didn't mind I'd forgotten my
certificate as they'd "always get the equipment back". In the Dominican
Republic, the bite piece had been chewed through and I was told to use the
spare. I bottled out of that dive, and someone had a panic attack at the
bottom on that dive at 35m.

No-one ever seems to listen when you say "I want a shallow dive first, just
to get back into the swing of things" and they drop down to 40m or so ...

Do it at Sharm, much nicer diving.

As long as things don't escalate in the middle east I might be in a
position to confirm that later this year.

Luckily not everyone is as thick as you are so we might avoid anything
    drastic.

You sure that's Ken and not Guy Fawkes? I seem to remember that the
Surfbaud domain is something to do with Guy Fawkes.

Surfbaud is the genuine Guy Fawkes' domain , but Ken is one of the
simpletons from uk.local.soutwest.lunatics who is stalking him and a few
other people. He's been posting under quite a few IDs recently including as
    GF.

My old V60 used to slip right inside the face plate area, haven't tried it
with my V3C but I suspect it's too wide. Not recommended for long
conversations, or at high speed [1] but it does make co-ordination en route
    a little easier.

[1] wind noise, you know, what with the visor being open.
