That's bloody good; we use TNT and it costs 50p extra per every kilo once
    you get over 10kg

There's plenty of competition for this type of work and we do spend loads
with them. I use a different company for pallets.

What, you mean deliver within cities and **** everyone else?

    The market doesn't answer everything.

No. I'm happy enough for my taxes to bail out the post office and keep
the cost of postage at a reasonable level.

Not everyone can afford to pay 50p to a quid a letter.

I recall this strike is about the sacking of a driver. As far as I'm
concerned they are doing their selves out of a job.

That's a good thing ( the sacking of that driver ). It shows that the bosses
do deal with our complaints about their drivers.

You'll never get a private company to deliver a letter to anywhere in
    the British Isles for 20p.

Champ was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
.... and everybody living in the Highlands can collect the post in
    Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Yes and no - you have certain economies of scale at work here, but the
main point is that mail operators tend to get granted a (limited)
monopoly in return for the promise of universal service provision. And
the latter isn't going to work properly if the companies have to
deliver mail everywhere for the same price.
