Paul Corfield emerged from their own little world to say

I relayed the difference between the appalling service in the market
town where my mum moved to[0] and Cardiff[1] to my dentist.

His response was that many graduates of the Cardiff Dental School settle
in Cardiff with a partner before graduation. Even if their partner is
the same age they could be a number of years into a career if they did a
3 year BA or started work after school.

Another reason is the workload. Apparently, my dentist, who graduated 2
years ago and is salaried, would not consider moving to Monmouthshire as
he would probably have to see many more patients each day for a similar
salary. I'm much happier with this dentist than my last one for this
very reason. All treatment takes place in one room by the dentist. None
of this sitting in a broom cupboards whilst a 16 year old take an x-ray.

Nobody in their right mind would want to live in Abergavenny either.

So, in summary, if you want an NHS dentist look in the hinterland of a
dental school. Lots of graduates have probably settled in the area.

[0] had to travel 10 miles from Monmouthshire into Powys

[1] plenty of choice: 3 NHS dentists within a 15 minute walk of my house

Even the best captain will sail the red sea at some point!

So it should matter even less if it's up there.

Well, I decided to dip into some of my single malts. I've gone a bit
crazy on my last few trips abroad and currently hold 19 single malts on
stock[1], plus assorted bourbons and whiskeys. I have to say it's a
true pleasure to walk over to the drinks cabinet having to spend a few
minutes trying to decide what next. I should do some recquired reading
of a bunch of utterly boring[2] scientific papers. They're lying to my
right, but so far I've been able to ignore them.

Incidentally heard anything back form CDC?

[1] To my shame I have to say that I feel I'm still missing some
essential ones. A problem I hope to remedy soonish.
[2] Not really true as the subject is really interesting, just the
authors always manage to make you fall asleep after the abstract.

You had a pikey filling then?

My local dentist is NHS and excellent. I hadn't been for about 8 years -
needed 5 fillings and had them all done over the last 3 weeks @ £60 a go for
white fillings. The silver ones would have cost about £8 or so on the NHS
    each.

hehe, you're not telling me your women are allowed to leave the cellar
    at all on this island?

Sort of reminds me of the Stella Artois ad with the French pub landlord
giving away the hidding allied pilot to save his pint. Thought it was
very amusing, although their attempt to present Stella as this
increcible expensive and high quality beer is pissing me off.

Oh, nothing, just a spot of genetic mods on my pet pathogene. You know,
the usual, increased virulence, airborne, trans-species activity for
all mammals. But don't worry, you're all protected by the Big One, or
it must have been part of his plan. ;-)

Aye, not too far at all. We did try one in Chester-Le-Street, which is a
bit nearer, but the address they gave didn't exist.

I dunno now, it was last year. It was just off the main high street
somewhere. We went to the address that was listed in the phone book, and
of course we called them too, we even found the building number. It was
    simply a normal house though.

I even rechecked the location on three different maps.

  19. IIRC Stella Artois was first brewed some time after the *second* world
    war.

I did like some of the old Heineken advertisements.
