Newbie-type CBT question

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Aug 24, 2005.

  1. Do you have to do the CBT before applying for the provisional licence,
    or is it done after?

Number One Son turns 16 soon and so the rigmarole begins for his moped.
Also, what's the url for the site that gives all the whys and
    wherefores?

    Ta.

  4. Ths CBT is done *after* getting a provisional licence. You get an A4
certificate-type-thing after doing your CBT containing the learner
motorcycle entitlement, which is valid for 2 years when accompanied by a
suitable provisional or car driver's licence.

You need a provisional licence before you can go on the road. Prov
licence first, then do CBT. If you have a full car licence you can do
your CBT and send the licence and CBT cert off to the DVLA who will
issue with a full cat-P licence (moped?) which you can then ride
forever without L-Plates. For some reason.

You must have a valid provisional licence before you can take the CBT. You'd
be amazed how many people turn up with one. The CBT certificate endorses the
    provisional licence.

    Before.

You do the CBT to become a learner. I recall pushing my TS50X for
about 3 or 4 miles to get it to the test place. Riding back was a hell
    of a lot quicker.
