    Hi

I'd like to leave my car a home more often and commute to work on a 250 cc
bike (can't afford bigger bike insurance just yet).

I want to keep it for ages so would consider buying new, and I've heard
Honda are bringing out a new single cylinder model for 2004.

I'll need to go on a longish trip of around 90 miles once a week. My
question is, are single cylinder bikes doomed to be 'bone shakers' i.e. is
it likely to be very vibey, with numb hand / arse syndrome or should it be
    OK for such distances?

    TIA

  2. Should be fine. Virtually all Japanese singles of 250cc and over have
balancer shafts built into the engines these days.

Have you tried a few comparative quotes. I was looking for a new 250cc bike
last year for exactly the same reason (insurance wise) that you state, but
the difference for comp insurance between a 250cc and the 500cc I eventually
bought was negligible. Being 60 years old in a rural location no doubt
    helps!

A quick average walking speed is 3mph lets say - so that would only be
30 hours of walking per day.

If he was power-walking at 5.7 mph he'd get it done with enough time for
8 hours sleep and maybe a bite to eat. I don't know where he finds time
    to post to ukrm though.

    Wot he said

but bear in mind that while 90 miles on an old 250 may be an adventure
in week one it is going to be a fucking nightmare by spring.

Start saving and buy a bigger bike as soon as you can afford it, if not
    before.
