    Hi
I've recently failed the DAS and plan to do it again soon. During the 3 days
training, after getting home, I found that my hips and knees were killing
me. I needed a soak in the bath when I got home and another soak when I got
up in the morning just to ease it a bit. This is probably due to the fact
that I'm an old git, a short arse and not used to it.
I found the foot pegs were set too far back on the ER5 I rode, is this the
norm on most bikes? Or are there bikes out there, once that have pegs
further forward which will stop my knees locking up

    TIA
    Steve

Using the patented Mavis Bacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Steve
Is it possible that you were unconsciously tensing your muscles whilst
riding? If you're not totally relaxed that's pretty easy to do.
There *are*, but they tend to be ridden by old people who smell of wee.

I had that when I was doing my DAS, but I think you have to bare in mind
that you are on the bike for quite a long time really, also I found that I
had to do quite a few stretching exercises to flex up a bit before riding
but then I'm becoming an old git too.

Think you'll find your just using muscles that haven't been used for a
    while... if ever.

  4. wee.

You can sod right off. My bike has pegs further forward,
and I'm not old and smelling of wee.

    Bikes vary.

Get some knee armour fitted. Amazing what the extra insulation does to
reduce the effects of cold on ageing knees.

Bad luck on your DAS. What did you fail on?

I'm shorter than a shortarse but I find the ER5 OK. You just need to get
used to the riding position. Also you're probably a bit tense so relax.

I left the indicator on after overtaking a bus that was picking up in the
middle of the road, he said I passed two junctions before cancelling. Also,
I was having huge problems trying to hear him over the radio, I pulled over
to tell him I couldn't hear properly, when I continued I pulled out and had
to pull back in because I didn't see the car that was overtaking.

    Better luck next time eh.

I failed mine first time, pulled up to close behind a box van at a set of
red lights... he gave me a dangerous error for it and it was in the last
minute of the test, apart from that I would have been ok, I was really
pissed off about it at the time but having said that I have never pulled up
close since so maybe he has done me a favour.

    All the best David

Had same problem; next day after my first lesson on a ER5, I couldn't
hardly walk, but I'm 6'3 and a FB. You get use to it ;o)
