Aside from the fact that all Jews are commanded to live in Israel, I
couldn't realistically continue to define myself as a religious Zionist,
whilst living here in (relatively) safe Paris. Call it putting my money
    where my mouth is.
The remarkable thing about TOT, Hog et al is that they think I've
invented some sort of 'Jewish persona', to the extent of attending a
Synagogue, wearing a kippa etc.. ... all to convince UKRM that I'm
    Jewish.

Even _I_ am not that fucked in the head.

  2. Ditto - once again, I've put back on and more, what I lost, so I'm going
to take it easy and lose it slowly.
To cut down the smoking - one an hour is plenty. For years I smoked one
every two hours and didn't feel the need for more - this past year I've
been stoking them up at three or four an hour at peak times.

  3. Cutting down won't make it easy to lose weight. Isn't that right?

I think all of the above will do that, but yes, a two week bike trip
with my oldest mate is on the cards for the summer.

    Yeah, that sounds good.

I think it's also important to have smaller goals that are relatively
easy to achieve and cross off the list mixed in with the major stuff.
It helps with a sense of momentum.

I think I would. I'd go to classes to. I bet there are some good Krav
    Maga clubs out there.

Well yeah, that'd be fun, if for no other reason than to get fit. But
guns? Nah. I have no desire to be the agent of death of another human
being. Even in a clear-cut case of self-defence, where it was decided
I'd had no choice, I sincerely doubt whether I'd ever again get a
second's sleep for the rest of my life.

Might feel different if you had kids but each to their own. You could
always practice shooting people in the leg ;-)

Krav Maga is good for overall fitness, strength and flexibility. The
Russian style, Systema is worth a look too.

I found the opposite was true.

When I smoked regularily I nibbled in between ciggies, so stopping
smoking (ok, switching from regular to irregular / social smoking) meant
I didn't nibble in between meals.

Yeah, it's on my list of 'things to do before I hit 50' (along with 'do
US Highway 1 on a bicycle', and 'learn to play REM's "Losing My
    Religion" on acoustique guitar').

    But, anyway ...
