I don't make a habit of it, but I enjoyed hearing DBC Pierre on Today
on Radio Four, after the win was announced.

    Non-fiction as well.
Light is okay, where light != crap.
This was on my recommendations page a few months ago, and I didn't get
it. But, as it's you, I'll give it a whirl.
Is this the one I own but haven't read?
This arrived last week - presumable as a result of you recommending on
    here.
    I *love* The Collector.

    Bring it on, missy.

Nice idea. Bit difficult to administer, though, with a U.S. postal
    address.

  8. I thought it was an interesting insight into the SA psych.
You're not doing anything wrong God gave you a covenant to do it.

On the other hand the only people to have a right to be in SA were the
Hottentots. All the Blacks and Whites (or any other shade) were just
settlers and had the same rights to be there.

Amazon doesn't dig it. I'll put on list of things to get from
    Abebooks.
    Best of luck, old boy.

You *can* do it, though. Seriously. Anyone who can't is a clown.
Scanned copies of a feature from December's issue of Classic Cars?

that, and the fact I have impeccable good taste.
    library.

I have a library card - there are two problems with it, AFAICS -
firstly, they rarely have new stuff without you having to order it in,
and secondly, I can't be doing with hardbacks, especially for large
    books.

I've mentioned before that a family friend worked at hut 8 with Alan
Turing and Leo Marks and the rest. Won't talk about it. OSE.

Hardly seems worth it now, as my Audi is gone and I'm never allowed another
    one, apparently.

heh - I probably could too - I've not done an exact count, but even a
conservative guesstimate would suggest we've got about 3000 novels (not
counting the sci-fi). Actually, we tend to have at least 25-30 out on
loan to various people at any one time.
dog has a bunch of mine, actually - are you lurking, dog?

I don't know I've never been addicted to alcohol. The worst it's ever been
is being very thirsty and fancying a pint in summer otherwise I can pretty
much take it or leave it. On NYE I shared a small bottle of sake with my SO.
That's the most I've drunk all holiday. Until two nights ago when I got
leathered because I was enjoying the social occasion.
From a medical point of view? That still isn't known; whether there is a
fateful cigarette that kicks off an ultimately terminal reaction. From a
social perspective when you haven't smoked for a while and someone who has
is in close proximity it's pretty dreadful. And it does detract from
enjoying food for others. Generally smokers' reactions are of the "**** you"
variety (like me when I was confronted by a yank protesting at my smoking at
an _outside_ bar in Portugal) but if someone was revving the tits of a
knackered old RD into your face while you sat and read a newspaper on a park
bench you might conceivably protest as well.
Fair enough. But it just makes no sense. If this pastime was so easy to
control then why would you put yourself in the firing line of one the
biggest contributors to premature death there is? It doesn't seem worth it.
And I am talking from the perspective of someone who occasionally smokes,
because I'm weak and usually drunk.

Yes. As I mentioned elsewhere, the general medical concensus seems to
be that less than ~five a day has no noticeable effect on mortality.
Oh, I agree entirely. Not really relevant to the discussion, though.
    See above.
I enjoy it, as I thought you'd understood by now.
And because you enjoy it, but will not allow yourself this luxury when
fully compos mentis. I'm exactly the same, except I'm aware, and
accepting, of this and don't deny it to myself.
