I can recommend Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. Not because it was good,
but because it was so bad I'd be happy to post you my copy to get it out
    of the house.

I liked The Rotters Club. Shame the paperback of The Closed Circle is
    not out until June.
    Read it.

  12. The beauty of Sharpe is that you only have to read one book to spot the
joke he is going to use as the basis for the rest of them.

Ditch that in favour of John Gribbin's "History of Science", and chuck
in "Schroedinger's Kittens" for some popular physics.

On the fiction side, I really enjoyed "Vernon God Little" by DBC Pierre
and "The Secret History" by Donna Tartt.

Ben Blaney emerged from their own little world to say
Francis Fukuyama - The Great Disruption

    Barber - Jihad v McWorld

    Putnam - Bowling Alone

Furedi - Culture of Fear: his new book "Where Have All the Intellectuals
Gone?: Confronting 21st Century Philistinism" sounds interesting too

The Fib is a kids book, but has some excellent stories in it.
If you like it then The Swap by the same author is a bit more grown up.
Either one gets you thinking as there is a lot going on behind the
    narratives.

All novels or non fiction as well? Light or serious?

Some of these I've recommended previously.

Mitch Albom - The Five People you meet in Heaven

Kate Atkinson - Behind the scenes at the museum.

Richard Flanagan - Gould's Book of Fish

    Ian McEwan - Atonement

Patrick Neate - Twelve Bar Blues

Alice Sebold - The Lovely Bones

Rosie Thomas - Bad Girls, Good Women.

Poppy Z. Brite - Lost Souls.

Christopher Brookmyre - Boiling a Frog

    John Fowles - The Magus.

    That's the first 10.
