  7. Heh. There was an Evening Standard Jak cartoon in the 80s, during a spell
of paedo-hysteria which resulted in a big demo near Russell Square. One
austere gent in black coat and pinstriped trousers is at the bedside of an
equally austere gent in hospital. Second gent has arm in plaster, leg up in
sling and head swathed in bandages. "To be honest, old boy, I'm not sure
what happened. I was walking through Russell Square. Some people asked me
what I was doing there so I told them I was a paediatrician, and that's the
    last thing I can remember."

Yes, and it /actually/ happened in Bristol a couple of years ago.
Around the time of the Roy Whiting conviction, possibly.

Ben Blaney emerged from their own little world to say
Palace 1 - 0 West Ham, Millenium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales 30/5/2004

Always makes me chuckle that you made a special effort to come to Wales to
    witness that.

    ****.

We'd ripped merry **** out of Ipswich Town in the previous game. I
was so up for it. But the players got stage-fright.

Still, I had the inestimable pleasure of getting leathered with my
Dad, my Uncle and my cousin after six months of self-enforced alcohol
abstinence. It was a great day - apart from the game.

Bit late but this occurred to me:

    The Crystal Spirit
    A Study of George Orwell
    http://www.web.net/blackrosebooks/crystal.html

George Woodcock's excellent critique of Orwell and his work. Apply
Orwell's politics and class analysis to the current situation and be wide
eyed. It's a very readable work.

Unfortunately amazon.com list it as out of print (although have used
ones). I have a copy you can borrow if can't get one, email me with a
    postal address.
