Have you seen the amount the bastards can drink? It costs a fucking
    fortune to get one pissed.

Maybe I shouldn't have said that.

  4. Never used to drink in the day (except weekends). But yes, my getting up
time has gone from 5:30 to about 10:00. Few pints in the arvo and home
for a siesta. Don't go out until about 10 - 10:30 at night.

Oh, went skiing the other week. Kept falling over. Everything you taught
me seems to have gone down the toilet.

  7. You'll have to hide in the bushes so the pedalo man doesn't see you
until he's given us the boat... I can't afford several pedalos.

You want to watch all this talking about pedalos. You'll have an angry
army of Sun "readers" petrol-bombing your house.

Not really. Habit, (behaviour) is very important. I'm a fairly light
smoker: I get through a bit less than two packets a week usually. That's
mostly because I don't smoke in the house and I'm not in the habit of
going out into the garden for a cigarette. If I'm having a quiet, boring
weekend at home I might not smoke at all. But if I go to visit a friend
I'll feel the urge for a fag, even though I have to go into the garden
    there, too.

Similarly, I smoke a couple of cigarettes a day at work and if I miss my
11 o'clock fag break I feel a bit out of sorts, even though I can easily
go several days without if I'm in a place where I'm not in the habit of
    smoking.

  13. It's well defined in the book. Read it. It not a bad read.

Surely you've been since then, haven't you? If not, a three-year gap
    would probably explain a lot.

Another just occurred. Have you read "An Evil Cradling" by Brian Keenan?
    Brilliant book.

This may be a tad late to enter the game, but I've been recommended
this by a Merkin friend and a French colleague. I've just ordered it,
so can't give you a review:

    Author: Wallach, Janet,
Title: Desert Queen : The Extraordinary Life of Gertrude Bell

Apparently, the female version of Lawrence of Arabia...
