That's what the French used to think. Or you might find some wizened
examples labelled 'Panais for soup'. These days you find healthy looking
specimens[1] in the relatively posh places like Casino.

    [1] Parsnips not French.

Posh? Casino? You're 'aving a giraffe, aintcha?

But yeah, they're becoming more common, at least in normal 'snip
season. First round here was a Super U that had them occasionally as
much as five years ago. E Leclerc only ever as very old sad looking
examples, limp and floppy (fnaar), so I never bother. They'd be OK for
    soup, but not for roasting.

All things are relatibe. Given the alternatives within reasonable
striking distance of 'the chateau' (Proxi, Spar or Super U) our Casino
is certainly the most expensive, though with the widest range of
    produce.
Some manky looking locally grown ones in the nearet market occasionally,
but last month Casino had big firm ones (ooh er missus).

Quite. Roast with thyme and honey, as 'frites', or a fine mash with
loads of butter. What's not to like?

I think that mostly it's the area and the people that make some shops
more posh than others. Our village shop is a reasonable sized
Ecomarché, now rebranded Intermarché Contact or similar and has most
thungs, including a not too bad butchers counter. With the larger
shops around (that we go to), the widest range of produce is usually
to be found in the Géant (Casino), but that's more by virtue of being
the closest to the Swiss motorway border. Carrefour up at Mulhouse is
2nd favourite of the big ones, with the one hyper and two regular E
Leclercs near us consistently dissapointing, but they're mostly
further from large towns, so have, I guess, a more local Alsace
    clientele.
Aye, we've had some decent ones recently, also from SuperU.

Not needed. Salt&pepper, Olive oil, is all that's needed for roasts.
Try adding grated cheese and cream, and a hint of Nutmeg. Oh, and some
    carrot.
Quite. I'm quite the vegetable-hater in most things, but 'snips are
one of the few I'll actually choose for taste, rather than just
because my digestive system needs them

Which, what, where, me? I don't like them. [1] And can I go back and
get a name that has one unambiguous spelling please. Only not a boy's
    one.

[1] If they appear in one of those winter veg bundles then they will
be chopped up small and hidden in stew.

GAF. It's short, it's snappy and it can't be mis-spelled. Bit like

The reason I know she won't like it is that I recall using it a while
back and she attempted to give me an evil stare.
