    Hi,

I got my learners permit last Friday and am now in the market for a helmet.

I'm after a KBC Force RR Blade in Blue.

Do you know the cheapest place in Melbourne I can buy one?

Very much appreciate your assistance. I am so looking forward to getting
    out on the road.

    Thanks
    Emma

Well a couple of tips :

2/ Blue is for boys, Pink is for girls

But seriously, take care and enjoy

    G'day Outback Emma,

First thing being first, and it being a long, long Usenet tradition to
answer a question adjacent to the one being asked, I feel obliged to
point out that the best helmet for the job is the one that fits you
    properly.

So don't go getting worried about the exact number of R's in the name
until you've wedged it on your head. I point this out only because
you're sure of the colour you want, but not the size you want, which is,
well, somewhat more essential to get right.

Helping learners choose the proper helmet is no small pain in the arse,
and carrying a decent stock for people to try on and choose from isn't
cheap, so I prefer to buy from whichever shop was helpful enough to help
me, even if its a few bucks more expensive.

Like Sharkey said most important thing about the helmet is that it fits
correctly and getting online you could get anything. Better of spending a
few extra dollars and getting the right one

I believe a small size will fit me. I didn't mention size as I didn't
believe it was relevant in this situation. I have been riding bikes for a
number of weeks, but just made it legal on Friday. I am used to riding a
955CC but obviously have to stick to the 250CC for 15 months.

I'm just after the name of a factory outlet or reasonably priced store. I
know Peter Stevens Motorcycles are expensive with their accessories but I
have no idea on other motorcycle accessory stores around Melbourne.

    Thanks.

I ended up buying a helmet which was a superceded model on special, HFC for
$259 but found i could have done a lot better now that I've used it for
    5,000kms.
The wind noise is very intrusive, I thought full faces would be a lot
quieter than they are however i have to use earplugs for a day trip, but it
fits ok except i find that the top part of the helmet comes down too much
and pushes hard on the top of my sunnies.

So yeah, i reckon going to a store is crucial to finding the right helmet
and I reckon most will go through a few helmets till they find the perfect
one for them, in fact i beleive the helmet is something that shouldn't be
taken lightly as you've got it on your noggin' for long time stretches. Next
time i'll take all day if i have to,even if it means i'll annoy the crap out
    of the sales guy.

    Cheers

MAW actually does have a shop , not far from your place BVR
Greg lurks here sometimes and his intention was to have an internet
only shop but suppliers wouldnt supply unless he had a shop

I havent been there for a while 18 months since i havent needed anything
and since the knob behind the counter tried to charge for fitting
tyres to loose wheels and for that reason i would reccomend that you
try and deal with Greg since it is his business and has the interest of
    looking
    after customers
    that link doesnt work
    maybe www.mcas.com.au ?

  14. Not everybody stocks KBC, and those that do don't always carry the full
range of models, let alone sizes. KBC sizes are slightly larger than
some other manufacturers, so that a small AGV is almost equivalent to an
extra-small KBC (at least in the VR2/VR3 range). Which means you must
try on the helmet before you buy.

Netrider isn't free any more, but it's only $5.00 and if that saves you
$25.00 off your $250.00 helmet at Peter Stevens, then you're ahead,
    aren't you?

IMO KBC have the best helmet ventilation system going at the moment,
which makes me wonder: "Available in RR (Racing) version with large
race styled air intakes system and vent shrouds, or S (Sports) version
for Touring and general Street Use." Do you really need extra powerful
ventilation for street use in Melbourne?

" Do you really need extra powerful
I wore one a couple of weeks ago on a long ride as a passenger. A friend
has one as his spare. It fit me perfectly and was very comfortable. As I
know very little about helmets, I chose the KBC Blade for that reason.

So buy your friend's spare helmet...
    or borrow it...
or, do you know where your friend keeps it?

He lives 1000km from me and I also happen to know that it fell from his bike
at high speeds on his way to visiting me. I'll probably end up buying a KBC
from Peter Stevens in Melbourne... I'm sure they stock the one I'm after.
My friend had to replace the visor on the one that dropped and we bought
that from PS in the city. $189 seems to be pretty cheap judging from the
homework I've been doing. Now to find a bike!

do they have more gear than their hopelessly outdated web site? Eg - new
Shoei road helmets "new for 2001". hmmm...

and I've got a gift voucher I want to spend there!
