Fucking hell, I had heard that there were some changes but when ringing up
the lot at the local Halfords yesterday it appears I need to bring my V5, a
utility bill and me bleedin licence and then they will charge me £8.99 for
    the privilege!

Christ I only want it for my trailer! Bring back the sticker number plates
    on a roll :-/

It's all part of the governments brilliant plan to stop crime!

You can still use sticky number plates (but not if the vehicle has the new 2
    letter prefix IIRC)
and you do not have to provide any documentation.

I make number plates at my 'Sunday' job and they're £10 each, so Halfords
    <spit> are a bargain.

I used to buy stick on letters and make my own. Generally I used the
    right letters.

Does this mean we can place an order here with you?

I'd still need to see your documentation etc.
It's not my shop or my license, so I have to play by the rules, sorry

  6. Went to the Ally Pally show the other week & while there I got a
number plate made up - no need to show any documentation at all (apart
    from the cash that is!).

I just went to Halfords and they want £15.99 for a plate, looks like they
have different prices for items in their stores eh?

That'd be for 'show' use only then. There's prolly a (very small)
notice somewhere on their stand, stating that they are not for road
    use.

"David Thomas" replied to "Donegal Paul"
yep, well, when me and missus went to Halfords they suddenly wanted £12.99

On turning to missus she told me that it must have been the local motorist
    centre she rang!
So we walked out, went to local shop, same procedure for £8.99 :)

Still a lot of hassle, and still a difference in price between your halfords
    and mine it appears.

    dixit Stritchy:
presumably this means you can't order number plates over the phone any more?

  13. You can if you phone up Fancy Plates in Norn Ireland
    ( http://www.fancyplates.com )

If you have a grey import Jap SOC it's the only way to get something
    that looks legal and fits.

Old Fart at Play was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Seconded. I get most of my bike plates from them.
