This is something I've been thinking about for a while. It would be a haven
for those who don't fear the strange, who are tired of the ridicule of their
peers, who know there's more to life than reliability, and who can cope with
left being different from right. It would also provide an escape from the
morass of trolls, spammers, septics and *nix neckbeards that infest ukrm.

The proposed name for this newsgroup is uk.rec.motorcycles.sidecars.

Bit of a problem there. The clue is in the name; it has the word
'sidecar' in it yet you're thinking of adding it to motorcycling line
    of newsgroups.

    2 wheels = motorcycle

More than 2 wheels = **** off to the car groups with your unreliable
pieces of slow, foul handling shite.

A motorcycle sidecar combination is a motorcycle with an attachment - very
little different to a motorcycle with, say, panniers or a topbox.

Big difference. A motorcycle with panniers and topbox still only has
two wheels and is still a motorcycle. A motorcycle with a sidecar
attached is no longer simply a motorcycle, it has become a three
wheeled car with no weather protection.

Would those who are not currently 'practising sidecarists' be welcome,
but are either lapsed (in my case), or merely aspirants?

Why dont you use the existing offroad group ?
Chair fanatics do it in the mud.

It takes a LOT of weight in the top box to **** up the handling as
    badly as a sidecar.

The NHCA would not agree. Three wheel cars have three 'tracks'. Trikes
also have three tracks, with either one or two driven wheels (FWD or
RWD). A solo motorcycle has one track and a motorcycle and sidecar
combination has two but only one driven wheel (try that on a four
    wheeled car).

I think the arguments are over now, but we used to discuss the
eligibility rules at length every AGM.

Naturally, only those who have ridden (note NOT driven) an outfit can
    fully appreciate their charms.

Sheesh, were it not for these denizens, the froup would be like...
....this. This has a whiff of a call for tumbleweed about it.

  10. Heh. I like the sound of that, but it mught be an idea to change the
name to include trikes and maybe even Reliant Robins et al.

    uk.rec.threewheelers? Or just rec.threewheelers?

You do realise that it's likely to attract some of the loopiest road
    users on the planet?

When I set up ukrmc, it got fast-tracked and came into being something
like three weeks after the Call for Discussion, and I couldn't see many
people objecting to a dedicated chairs/trikes ng, so I reckon it might
    get fast-tracked as well.

OK - when stationary (if the frame is true and the wheels properly
aligned). Or have I been whooshed?

Do you mean the Isetta fanciers ? Oh hang on, I forgot the Ape.
It certainly would be an eclectic mix if ranging from an F1 (or what
ever they call it these days) outfit to an Ariel 3.

Can't get that link to work, but let me guess that it is me referring to
driving an outfit. Got me bang to rights mista, and in fairness even the
ACU talk about sidecar drivers when they mean the nut holding the
    handlebars.

In any case kneelers are special case. I can't imagine anyone saying
    they drive a trials outfit.

    Omigod.

Get it sorted then, you'll have at least five from here if you include
yourself. The biggest problem will be the old gimmers that frequent
the yahoo group Sidecars UK but I reckon a bit of naughtiness should
see most of them retreating at a higher speed than their outfits are
    normally ridden at.
